Alright ive lurked on price scope for a few weeks now ive read some about the 4''C''s. The date of when id actually buy the stone is a little far off since I plan to propose somtime summer of 07 but I want as much help as I can get. I asked my SO some real general questions so she knows im browsing and today she sent an email with some pics that said.

"I like these, simple but with a design. These types of designs are called Filigree"

Then a link to this site

http://todiamonds.com/antique%20engagement%20rings.htm ( Is this site any good )

I searched Filigree on here this type of ring seems to be anything but simple

So im not sure where to start some old threads say you should really have this custom made as opposed to a mold/cast.

I guess im looking for somone on the board who has this type of ring and how they went about getting it. Also if anyone knows some reputable ring makers/ crafters in the South Fl area they can point me to.

Welcome to the site! I''m relatively new also but like yourself I''ve learned to trust everyone''s opinion here. As I said, I''m by far not an expert but that site doesn''t list any of the diamond specs. You definately want to check those out first. If I were you, I''d start searching some of the pricescope vendors- WF, GOG, James Allen, etc. After looking at the sites and the settings they have, ask your girlfriend if she sees anything she likes. Do you know what shape diamond she prefers? Does she prefer a solitaire or 3-stone ring?

I ended purchasing my E-ring from WF and it going to be delivered tomorrow. The WF staff is very helpful. I''ll let you know what I think of the ring once it arrives.

Since you have plenty of time, I''d start spending sometime here and just browse some of the posts- you''ll learn a lot. Good luck.

I think it is best to break this down into two tasks:
1. Look for THE diamond
2. Look for THE setting

I presume you are looking for round shaped diamonds?
What carat weight, colour and clarity? Top performing cut is a given, right?

What is your budget for both the diamond and setting?
Are you looking for a white gold, yellow gold or platinum setting?
There are some simpler filligree/engraving and also those with added diamonds down the sides. Which is preferred?

Thanks J rob for your quick reply id like to see the pics once you get the ring.

Well I still have alot more research to do. Im no where near completing my due dilegence.

Things I know about the diamond-
Its going to have fluorescence
The size is going to be .70 -.90 I need to talk to her about it somehow but she has small fingers and I think if i get a stone with the right measurements it will look bigger then it actually is.

The Clarity is going to be VVS1 to VS2
The color H Max

Top performing cut is given :P Whichever that is since I cant remember what I read about cut.Is that Ideal Cut ?

Shape Probably round that seems to be what is on most wedding rings.

The band will most likely be platinum and for the filigree/ engraving probably the simpler one with out the diamonds going down the sides.

I think my budget is 6-7 grand ? Am I way out of my league anyone wanna give me a reality check. Hope this helps and gets me more info

No Volt it''s not a tech term but something you can ask a vendor about.

Welcome Volt!

I would continue to go in your current direction.

You may want to look in more depth at the TOOLS And the RESOURCES that are available.

Also...Keep posting and asking questions...remember their are no "Dumb questions/comments"

Good Luck!

www.saturnjewels.com there are only a few examples on the site, but they are pretty.

Man this site has some really nice setting''s but it looks like they do the whole thing. When they dont have prices on the site it makes me wonder how much it cost. I guess ill just have to call.

Thank DH 10. Its a good thing I have time to look at all this, I never thought so much would go into getting a ring.

Hmm, when I hear filligree I think GreenLakejewelry.com
MTG_A_10116.jpg

For $1760 - $3300

With dscassi there's this setting:

With the bottom diamond anacgarcia found it'd be $6284 in white gold which is perfectly in budget

ETA: There's also a couple of interesting things at cross jeweler's. I think the edith is the nicest of these:
