I just found out tonight that my brother and SIL are pregnant!!! I''m so excited, this will be the first baby in my immediate family. I''m already an aunt to two wonderful nieces by marriage, but this will be my first "blood" niece or nephew, I am thrilled for them AND for myself and my parents! They will be grandparents for the first time and they are equally ecstatic, of course. My brother and his wife hadn''t planned on having kids and this was kind of a surprise, they''ve been married for 5 years, so it was definitely a good surprise, though. My mom and I are especially excited to shop...she called me tonight and said so what are you going to buy? And I said "EVERYTHING!!!" LOL!

They all live 5 hours away and this will really give me an excuse to get home more often, in fact I am now planning a visit next week!

Thanks for listening, I just had to share this wonderful news!!!

Awww, how exciting Monnie!!!

If your SIL needs support or has any questions, please tell her about our pregnancy thread...

Thanks Lisa! SIL actually works in a hospital, she does mammograms, so she''ll have access to great information there. I will definitely tell her about the PG thread here, though, I bet she would enjoy it. I''m just bursting with joy. DH and I were just talking about starting a family of our own this past Monday, and lo and behold I got this news tonight. SIL and I are the same age, and coincidentally, we have the same first name and are the same height, it will be so neat to see her go through this pregnancy, we get along really well and I love her so much, she''s like the sister I never had!

On a side note, my bro and she have been kitty rescuers for the past few years and currently they have 10 kitties and 2 dogs, and they are rehabbing their house and both are working full time. My bro has already sold his motorcycles this week, and now they are trying to figure out how to downsize their pet population. They are such good parents to their animals, and she has never wanted to part with any of the kitties because she loves them all so much, I feel bad for them in that respect, but there is that concern of toxoplasmosis (sp?) and of course not wanting to have a baby around so many cats. So I''m hoping DH and I can maybe take one to help them out, we love cats but don''t have any currently.

Yay monarch! Such joyous news! How exciting!

So exciting!!! When is she due? This CANNOT be helping your baby fever! If they are indoor cats and your brother changes their litter she will be fine. We have two cats and the doctor didn''t see worried at all. Actually since I grew up with cats I am probably immuned to it (as is anyone who has had lots of contact with cats) but twist my arm, I don''t mind DH taking over the duty for awhile

It would be VERY hard for my to give up one of our kitties.

Being an aunt will be SOOOOO much fun! 5 hours is not that far. Closer our families.

Tacori, she''s due the first of February, I believe. I''m glad you chimed in about the cat thing, I know my bro hates to change the litter so that may be a problem.

And no, this is not helping my baby fever at all. When I first heard the news, I felt the tiniest twinge of downright jealousy...not only because of baby fever, but a little bit of sibling rivalry as well! I really envy that my brother and SIL live so close to my parents, especially now. I got over that little twinge really quick though, it lasted maybe 2 seconds, ha! then I moved on to holding back tears of excitement and joy!

Congrats to Auntie Monarch and Bro & especially his wifey! Cheers to family

Ught oh -- I can feel a spoiled little Monnie niece or nephew coming on!

Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family!

Monarch, congratulations! I love being an Aunty!! That will be a lot of fun.
Speaking of baby fever, are you planning anything soon? Just curious since you mentioned that you are your DH were talking about it.

Speaking of cats and pregnancies, did you hear that being scratched by a cat can be fatal to the baby? I had heard of no litter changing while pregnant but nothing else. I''m not looking fwd to having to take our cat in to get the nails clipped on a regular basis (when the time comes that is).

Congrats again! Enjoy the baby shopping!

Congratulations to Monarch and Bro (& family).

There''s so many cute baby girl stuff out there, the choice and selection is endless. Don''t forget the large ticket items too that can be fun for the baby like a bouncer chair, a swing, a Baby Bjorn and the list goes on...

YAY for Auntie Monnie! Being an aunt is one of my favorite hats to wear! I adore my nephew, he is just a bundle of fun. You''ll be a terrific influence on this new family member, he''s lucky to have you as an aunt.

Congrats Monarch! I have baby fever too if it makes you feel any better. I have two nephews and a neice and they are the best - so sweet and loving. We love to spoil them so much, I can''t imagine how our children will be!

Congrats, it is wonderful to be an auntie!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly as long as she wears gloves and washes her hands really well after she and the baby will be fine. BUTTTTT....I still think that your brother should change it. No one LIKES changing it but seeing how she is carrying his child and all

Cats and babies are perfectly safe. I understand your sibling rivalry. I think that is a totally NORMAL reaction!

About cat litters and hubbies,

Mine hates changing the litter but for the sake of the baby, he did it througout all 9 months without a squeek of complaint. It''s just not worth the risk and he did not want anything to go wrong with the pregnancy.

That said, I think her hubby should just suck it up and do it. Not for her, but for the health of HIS child.

Congratulations!! How exciting - I love babies!!!

That''s right Chrono! Heck 9 months! I am planning on stretching it out a bit

Blame it on breast feeding!

Monnie, I''m so excited for you!!! As you saw in my thread, I''m going to be one, too. Are they going to find out the sex? So they didn''t plan it at all? Babies are great!

Thanks Irish, I talked to my SIL tonight and she hasn''t even thought of registering yet! But when she does it''d be fun to have a partner in crime to shop with!

Amberwaves, yes I did see your thread and isn''t it exciting!!!! I think I''m more excited than my bro and SIL are about the pregnancy, it was a surprise for them and I understand that they are having to reconfigure everything in their lives now to adjust to their new future plans, it''s a fun time but sort of scary when you haven''t planned on having babies. I''m sure they will get much more excited when they get everything figured out. And I don''t know if they are going to find out the sex, she just found out she was pregnant a couple weeks ago and she''s due in Feb., and I forgot to ask her tonight whether they would want to know the sex. I selfishly hope they don''t want to be surprised, I''m already dying to shop, lol!

I know...are you kidding me? I used to manage the children''s dept. of Von Maur in Indy, so even though I don''t have kids I can think of about a million things I want to get for this baby, and I think a maternity ring is in order here as well which I will mention to my brother, lol! Yup, spoiling a kid, here I come!!!

you know, we''ve never been the "planning" type as far as children, we are just doing the not-trying but it-would-be-great thing so far. We did talk about it more in depth this past week as we are not getting any younger...and we feel like in this stage of our lives we''re ready for parenthood. I would never want to post here about actually trying just in case things don''t work out in our favor as far as conceiving, but I can assure you that the PS community will be first on my list of telling people we''ve achieved pregnancy! I forget sometimes how much I love kids until I''m around them or I hear news of other people''s pregnancies, but it''s always in the back of my mind, like ''wouldn''t it be nice if..." ya know?

And on the whole kitty thing, I talked to my brother tonight and he said they''ve already chosen which 5 cats will stay and which 6 (I didn''t realize they were up to 11 now) will go...sad, but at least they have some time to find homes for them. He said he will take over litter box duty, so yay! He''s going to be a great daddy and a great husband to my SIL as always. He was such a good big brother to me growing up...he used to love helping my mom with everything, and he pulled me around in my little red wagon and pushed my stroller all the time...he went on to build me two treehouses when we were kids and was always a shoulder to cry on when I needed him. I''m so glad he found a wonderful woman to marry and now he will have a new addition to their family to give all his love to.

Okay, I am a cat lover but 11!?!?!?! Whoah! I am glad they have found a solution that will work well for them. I just talked to my SIL. She is so excited to see how big I have gotten. She is so curious (but also freaked out) by the whole process. Keep up updated auntie!

I know, they got a little rescue-happy and weren''t even thinking of having kids when they took the cats on in the first place. Also they live in a small town and by word of mouth people found out that they were willing to take in unwanted kitties so that''s where a couple of them came from.

I take it your SIL doesn''t have kids yet, it''s cool to get to see a loved one go through pregnancy before you do it yourself, I think. When two of my best girlfriends were pregnant a couple years ago, they were so informative. Unfortunately one had all the negative experiences and she was way too willing to share them with me, which freaked me out, but the other one had a really great and easy pregnancy so I got to hear both sides. My biggest issue is getting over the L&D part of it all...babies tend to run big in my family (I was almost 10 lbs. and my bro was almost 11!), and I worry about the episiotomy factor every time I think about being pregnant. But I''ve been through a couple surgeries already so I know I could deal with that or a c-section if it came down to it.

I am the first one pregnant on both sides. Honestly as much as I whine my pregnancy (in the preggo thread) it has been fairly easy. Obviously I have yet to experience L&D but I am trust my doctor and know in the end a healthy baby is worth everything. DH was also a big baby, over 10 lbs. I was small (though 3 weeks early) so it should be interesting to see how big the baby is!

Congrats Monarch. Being an auntie is great. I have a 2 year old niece.

Don't worry about all these stories you have heard about L&D. When I was pregnant with my boy, I walked a lot and did not do any other execises. He came in just over 3 hours, all natural. It wasn't that painful.

Thanks Tacori and Jewels, I know that the end result is worth all the discomfort. I actually asked my Ob-GYN last year how he thought my L&D might go since my DH and I are so, well, BIG...he said we''d probably just have normal size babies only they would be really long, lol! I don''t know if he was being serious or not, ha.

What should I do for my SIL? I would like to get her a fun gift but I have no idea what she would want or have use for. I''m used to looking at registries and getting things for pregnant gals from them, but she doesn''t plan to register for another few months. Should I get her that book "what to expect when you''re expecting," or is that something women usually buy on their own?

I think you should get her a belly book (or some sort of preggo journal) I got a really cute one from the site Vegas posted on the preggo thread. Baby book would be good too. Body pillow, GC for maternity clothes, maybe a mani/pedi type GC. I would do something for her rather than baby (for now!)

I thought this was a great book while I was pregnant and makes a cute gift: The Hip Mama Survival Guide - http://www.amazon.com/Hip-Mama-Survival-Guide-Childbirth/dp/0786882328

But I like Tacori''s idea about getting something strictly for her vs for the baby.
