I am currently in the research stage and will be looking to purchase a diamond/ring soon...my gf is in love with radiants (at the moment...I know you guys know how that goes). Am very much considering purchasing online...but does anyone have any suggestions for B&M here in Sunny Southern California? And just to verify, I can have BN or other sites send the diamond local so I can see it right? Thanks to everyone...

The helpers on this forum have been stupendous! I have recieved loads of valuable information here!

Chris, it is overwhelming at first. Give yourself a couple weeks to soak up the knowledge here before you buy.

Once you know what you want and what it costs online, you can negotiate with a local B&M. You can also buy the stone online and have it set locally.

My personal recommendation is to buy your diamond with a simple (cheap) solitare, propose, then involve the FI in picking the final setting. This allows you to keep the suprise but still get the final ring she loves.

I don't know how close you are to downtown LA (the jewelry district), but that is a good place to start "your homework". There are square/rectangular radiant cut. Which shape does she like better? It's a good idea to view these beauties in person and look at the certs. Once you have figured out what you (SHE) want, then you can go online to compare prices. There is a lot to take in to consideration... for example, color/clarity/carat/cut, table and depth %, L/W ratio and face-up appearance can be very different depending on the various factors.... Not to scare you in any way , but it has been almost 5 months and i'm still "searching for my rock".

stick it out...keep reading...you will like going into the stores and knowing enough about this that the salespeople have to try and keep up!

Just a few quick notes...

Only work with online vendors that provide 100% refunds if you're
dissatisfied. That means you get back all your shipping costs, credit card
charges and purchase amount. Our company (unlike most others) will even
refund your RETURN shipping costs!
Shop around. Although the "cheapest" price isn't always the best value,
look for online vendors who offer better than average discounts.
Get your purchase appraised! Independant appraisers are best, since
they don't have a bias nor do they care whether or not you bought the
diamond over the internet. If you can't find an independant appraiser in
your area give the online vendor a call and they'll possibly be able to recommend someone.
Lastly, enjoy yourself! Shopping for a diamond should be fun. While
it's important to get a diamond education by reading diamond tips, spend
some time looking at diamonds locally. Also don't be afraid to call the online vendor and ask
for some advice on the phone!

Best wishes,
