for the last 9 yrs I have been a mother to 2 girls. Both of my daughters weighed in the 50% percentile at their 1st yr checkup (19 lbs). 8 months ago I had my son and he''s a beast.. at his 6 month check up he was weighing in the 50% percentile but that was 18.3 lbs. WOW...I used to be able to buy clothing a yr in advance for my daughters since they would wear the sz that coordinated with their age...but my little guy is 8 months now and he''s wearing 12-18mo (getting snug)...so now I''m ordering 18-24mo. He''s even built so much wider...like a line backer and he''s super long (I''m short...5''4 and my dh is kind of short 5''9 but my dad and brother are very tall)

I''m just amazed how different they are in their growth. I knew of the obvious differences but never thought that my 8mo old would be weighing more than my girls did at 1 yr and wearing sz 4 pampers so soon.

LOL!

But he''s sooooooo CRUTE!!!!

My little guy was in the 98th percentile for weight until he was about 2. He is 3.5 now and finally evening out a bit! I know at his baptism at exactly 6 months, he was wearing a 12 month outfit and it was SNUG! He wore a 2T his before he was a year old, but he kept in it until he was 2.5. Now he''s wearing a 4.

I don''t think it''s a difference in boys vs girls though. I have a nephew who is exactly a year younger than our little boy. We figured all of the clothes would just pass over because they would be the same sizes in the same seasons. Not so. 2.5 yr old just entered the 2T!

JT is built like a line backer too. Carters clothes fit him pretty well. We struggled with shoes for his Flintstone feet too but found Buster Brown''s were great.

btw-Super cute little one you have!!

I doubt it is a boy vs. girl thing either. My boys are both about 50% percentile for everything while my good friend''s baby girl was always about 97% percentile! Just the luck of the draw. My boys even at the 50% percentile don''t always fit into the "correct" clothing size.

Yeah definitely not a boy vs girl thing. My daughter had been over the 90 percentile since birth. She was 18lbs 11oz when she was 6 months and 20lbs 13oz at her 9 months well visit.

wow QT, your girl is a big girl!! she weighed more than B at 9 months. but i''m sure she''ll be slimming down soon.

Kids have very different growth rates. Big babies and big kids don't always end up at big adults. My son was down right puny. He wasn't even on the charts for weight and was short. He always looked several years younger than his peers. He is 6'1" today. My tiny daughter was also low on the weight charts and we were told she'd probably be 5'1" to 5'2" as an adult. But by 8th grade she was 5'9". So they all grow differently but its not boy vs. girl, just different genes.

atroop711, lucky for your kids the boy got the linebacker physique and your girls got the average physique.

My nephew's wife is a beautiful slim lady but tells stories of how she was 30lbs at 1 year and her mom had to Q-tip out her folds so she didn't stink!!

. I will look in to the carters clothing and keep Buster Brown in mind (that''s the brand I wore as a kid) when it comes time for shoes.

what I meant by boy vs girl is that when I mentioned the difference in their growth to my pediatrician...he said why do you think we have 2 different growth charts? I had no idea the charts where different but when I looked at them they are different.

Ditto that. My youngest brother was the shortest kid in his (not small) junior high graduation picture. He had an incredible growth spurt sometime in high school and is not 6 feet tall.

I don't have boys ...yet, hoping for one day - in three years though. But he sure is a cutie patootie! but with my first DD she would be on the smaller side wearing 6months clothing even at 12-14 months, but now my 8month old DD wears in the 12 month range - 18 months

ETA; forgot to mention that my FIL was a preemie at birth, and is now 6'9" really big guy for my short 5' self

DH''s whole family is all above 5''8" even his sisters and mother DH is 6''3" himself, I tried to date shorter guys, it just didn''t happen for me, i ended up with the tallest guy I ever dated and even a few years younger than me

, But our kids are kinda thin about 15% of their weight right now in their age group and in the 90% in the height so far but I''m sure it''ll even out later, don''t think our kids will be taller than average though because of me

but who knows strange things have happened like his Dad a little ol'' preemie and ended up being so big and tall.
