hi there,

iv decided i want to have a solitaire ring for my engagement ring with an eternity band. I am a ring size 5 1/2 and i wanted to know which diamond size as in the size of the stone would look best. I do not want a diamond too small or too big but in properation. I would like to know so i can hint to my boyrfiriend how big the stone should be.

Something that will look liek this on my finger. ring, ring 2 , ring 3

Could those who have a solitaire diamond and with the same ring size please show me pictures of yours.

I appreciate all your help and i want to say this is a wonderful site :)

Thanks

I think you''re looking at about a 1.5ish size there. I would DEFINITELY recommend that you go try them on first though!!!!!!

I don't know if it's the way the photos were taken, but the three rings you posted look quite different to me. For example, the first ring looks significantly smaller to my eye than the third ring. The third ring looks like it's at least two carats to me while the first two rings look around a carat or slightly more. Let me know if you disagree!

Personally, I prefer the look of a larger stone. I have a size 4 finger and wear a 2.5 RB solitaire. I could still go for more finger coverage!

I wear a size 5, and I just love the look of a 1.5 ct stone on a size 5-6 finger. During an earlier engagement, I had a 1 ct solitaire which was lovely, but I found myself wanting to jazz it up with a blingy setting (I''m also 5''9", so I could carry off a bigger ring).

When my DH and I went ring shopping, I was looking at 1.5 ct solitaires, and loved the size. I eventually ended up with a 2 ct after an upgrade (see avatar pic) but I would have been satisfied with a gorgeous 1.5 ct. When I tried on rings, I thought that it was a perfect size for a solitaire.

I wear 1.25ct solitaire on 4.5 size finger and I love the size and proportion. Mind you, I`ve only received my ring a week ago, so DSS hasn''t set in yet...lol. I think on your size finger a 1.5ct solitaire would look just perfect!

If you can go to many many stores and try on alot of diamonds. One 1.5ct can be much smaller than another due to cut. So try to figure out what mm size you are looking for. Then you won''t be unhappy with your 1.5ct.

And have Fun doing it!!

I''d also suggest you go *slightly* larger than you''re comfortable with. When you first try on rings the stones will seem large, but when you get used to wearing a ring the stone won''t seem large at all.

First of all, you MUST go try some on! It''s fun fun fun! But here is my 1.35 solitaire on a size 5.25. Happy hunting!

Hey Loveyy!

I think that somewhere between 1.3-1.7 would look great, but the carat size will most likely depend on how big his budget is. So see about what the budget is and then go ahead and work within his budget to get the best cut and carat you want! Good luck!

I have a 1.3 mark morrell sunburst solitaire on my size 5.25, and I love the size of it on me. I did try on rings at Tiffany''s with DH when we first started talking engagement, and anything much bigger than 1.3 (such as 1.5+) started to feel too big *to me*. They were gorgeous, sure, but it just felt like too much *for me* and would have made me uncomfortable. I believe my words when I tried on the 1.25 were "wow, I don''t think I could ever wear something bigger than that". DH thus decided a hair larger was thus the perfect size for his diamond search. So, basically, I agree with everyone who has said you should go try some rings on for size.

Do you have any idea of budget yet? As much as I love the size of my stone, I think the cut is way more important in the end!

Wedding set (I added a mark morrell wedding band)

i want to say a BIG thnk you for all thos who took the time to reply. I wanted to know the size of the diamond lenght in mm/cm if possible. i will try to go on try try the rings when i get time but in the local highstreet they dont have much of a selection in London anyways. So if you could tell me the diamond size as in the lenght of the diameter (if that makes sense) as that will give me more of an idea.

Thanks

My 1.35 ct diamond (pictured above) measures 7.2 mm.

Are you talking rounds or cushions? 1.64 ct cushion = 7 mm

round solitaire please

thank you :)

For reference, the diameter for a 1.5 ct RB is 7.4mm and for a 2.0 ct RB is 8.2mm.

may i ask is there a chart that shows the carat size and the size of the diamond in MM/cm if this makes sense?

thank you

or are all e.g 1 ct the sames sizes in lenght/diameter?

You need to try some rings on. Even some people who have the same size of finger as I do have much more length on their fingers than I do. Some even have more width (I have extra padding on the back side of my finger). I have worn a 7mm on my finger and it was just simply too much! I only have 12x10mm usable and my wedding band takes up 3 of the 10 mm. I hope this makes sense but I think it is wise to look for yourself.

I know many here might laugh, but I tried on a 2ct in a store and all of us (including the sales person) started giggling. I looked like I was a child wearing something not meant for me. The setting was nearly as tall as my wedding band is!

So go try and see what you like.

I also agree the last stone looks much much larger to me than the 1st.

My ring size is 4.5 and my center diamond is 1.58cts. I think its 7.58mm. Originally I was looking for a 1 carat, but then I started trying on 1.5s and fell in love. However, now that my diamond is set, I definitely wouldn''t be against something in the 1.75-2.0 carat range (DSS). That being said, I would be completely happy if I never upgraded (which I don''t plan to). As everyone has said--TRY DIFFERENT DIAMOND SIZES ON, and you will have a better idea which size you prefer.

Here is a picture of my ring, which some may be tired of seeing--lol! Sorry guys!

Hi!

Here''s the finger coverage chart, hope it helps.

(useful for comparing looks on different sized fingers)

Cheers!

Loveyy, I posted links to pics of my ring in my first response, but, to answer your question about size in mm, my 1.3ct is 6.98mm. It''s on the deeper side of an excellent cut, so it faces up more like what people usually quote for a 1.25ct.

thank you so much all you have answered my question. I went to a lolcal jewlers today to just try on rings for size and i think 1ct is big enough for me i tried a half carat and 1 carat and i prefered the 1ct. I am not sure if i want to go for 1.5ct but i wouldnt mind. I havent tried a 1.5 so we will see i will update.

thank you so much

Good! Trying them on is the only way to see what they''ll look like on YOUR finger. I tried on a 2ct round on my 5.25 finger and it looked like a DOOR KNOB on me, not a ring. Yet that size looks stunning on other people.

In the end I went with a cushion, but enjoy your hunt!!
