THIS IS NOT A POLICTAL POSTING IN NATURE...SIMPLY A CURRENT EVENT

I just read that Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested this morning for corruption and solicting bribes...apparently, he''s been trying to *sell* Obama''s seat in the senate to the highest bidder

.

All this after everything else thats been in the news with the employee sit-in and Blagojevich "stopping" the use of Bank of America funds in the state of Illinois...wow.

I''m shocked, and disappointed...Illinois last Governor, George Ryan, was also brough down for corruption...

Way to go, Illinois

While I'm a bit shocked about this, I'm not shocked that he got caught doing something illegal. Thank heavens he's gone. Can we get someone honest in there now?
hmmm.gif

YES!!!!!!!!!
It is about time!!!!!!!!!
This is a good thing for Illinois!

I''m totally with you...a fresh start would be nice.

And I think it''s almost ironic that this all happened only the day after Blagojevich announced the BoA thing because of the sit in. Prehaps the Feds jumped in to avoid any further "tanking" of businesses.

A fresh start would be great. I hope he gets the book thrown at him, this is really appalling.

Apparently the gov didn''t like the way president elect Obama does bizness. The honest way.

Oh my god Ellen how awful!! I didn''t see that article before..

Yea, I saw the news today - totally outrageous. Did he really think he could get away with something like this?!
The guy always did creep me out.. and let me just say his HAIR drives me nuts!!

Down with Blago!

Now can the IL folks re-open their museums in January?

And stupid question - who is running the state now? Is there anybody better in line?

Honest????? In Illinois????? Somehow I don''t think this will ever happen.

My DH works for BoA...which Blagojivch tried to break ties with...I hope that doesn''t go thru now...it''s not BoA''s fault the company wasn''t paying their bills or employees...

As an IL citizen, we keep electing dumba$$e$ into high ranking political positions and I really don''t know why. But, we do have lots of GOOD people in there too. I''m convinced those GOOD guys are the reason these idiots keep getting caught.

Maybe now we can have our "unnecessary" parks back!

I spent 7 years there and WOW, that''s all I can say.

Hi All,
I have lived in Il for 30 yrs and when I heard the news, I thought, yes, thats how it works here. You can be Governor for a while, then you have to go to jail.

My brother and his wife were invited to the wedding of Gov Walkers daughter many yrs ago. They were appropriately excited. Several yrs after he too had to make that trip to the pokey. In Il this is what some people think is the way Gov works. Partiularly those elected to serve. It is sad. We all heard this guy was like the mafia. I didn''t vote for him although I''m usually a democrat. It''ll make a good movie.

m Thanks,
Annette

Good ol'' IL politics. It''s all the same

Wow. Who woulda'' thunk it? A dis-honest politician? Shame shame. Hopefully someone who is at least a LITTLE less shady can get in there!

They do exist, but they''re most likely in the minority. And for the record, this isn''t a problem exclusive to IL, as has been stated by many political pundits, but we DO seem to be on a roll.

As my oldest said yesterday, "but all politicians are crooked, I wonder if this means IL is just better at catching them".

Haha, DF - noooooo. Just wondering if IL is going to be stuck with someone who is better or worse!

I''ve lived in Illinois my whole life. People who don''t live in Chicago pretty much view the state to be divided into those two sectors. Chicago, and everyone else. It doesn''t surprise us that, given Chicago''s history, there is still corruption, favors, under the table...

Everyone that I know absolutely despises Blago. So he refused to either raise taxes or EVER pass a workable budget. Instead he just shifted money around, raiding state pension funds, transportation money, and all sorts of other vital services in a horribly cynical bet that he would be out of office before the blowback hit.
He has a reputation for being the kind of leader who insists things be done his way. I don''t feel sorry for Blago one bit. Wake up Illinois voters. Pick someone good this time!

Yeah, I don''t know of anyone who likes the guy, or voted for him. Here''s a nice example of government waste.

"Illinois has an Executive Mansion in Springfield, and past governors have either lived in the capital or at least stayed there while the Legislature was in session. Blagojevich lives in Chicago and prefers to go home at the end of each day"

At our expense.

Oh my god is this where the 10% - 11% cook county tax is going?!?!
We have the highest taxes in the country yet the city is somehow broke and announce they aren''t even going to be plowing the side streets!?

exactly. And, don''t forget, we still owe huge $$$ for out IDOT salt! The state is having a hard time getting enough salt to clear the roads because of our past due payments!

Very true most of the rest of state wishes they could give Chicago to Indiana.

I had to copy the front page of the Wall Street Journal.
What a retort to ''editorial support''

I wonder how long this clown was operating like this - and how he EVER got elected in the first place.

R/A, you have no business being snide. President-elect Obama had nothing to do with the alleged crimes of the Illinois governor and does not need to defend himself against them. How dare you attempt to tarnish him? I suggest that instead of wasting your time attempting to malign President-elect Obama that you go post a lot of questions about the Illinois governor on a site for President Bush to answer. The questions would be equally relevant if put to him as they would be if put to President-elect Obama since neither man was implicated in any crime! And shame on you!!!

Hasn''t been proven that he didn''t have anything to do with it.
They are both the product of the same Chicago political machine.
Obama has supported him on many occasions.
People can whine and cry all they want but there are some ties there, just how many isn''t known yet.
