If you liked a wedding set, but the engagement ring would

I like a wedding set but the engagement ring is shaped a certain way that I can't
wear just any wedding band with it - it won't sit flush against it.

Would this deter you from buying this set? (a custom matching band would be made so i'd have a band, but could never ever switch it to change up the look of the set over the years) Do you think I should get a regular eng ring ?

If I really loved that wedding set, I 'd buy it; I 'd also buy a plain band to wear alone when I don't /can't wear the set (gardening, cleaning, doing gym, ...).

Got any pictures of the set?

This. I would get the set and a substantial gold/plat band to wear when you don't want to wear the set -- you can get some reasonable prices on eweddingbands.com. I wear an eternity band, but didn't want to wear it all the time - cleaning, gym etc. I actually got a 4mm WG half round, comfort fit band from a QVC outlet for 45$. I wear it all the time.

I think one thing to consider is if you'd ever want to wear only your wedding band. A lot of people take off their e-ring and just wear their wedding band for more energetic activities and nasty chores. Especially if they have larger diamonds or more precious settings.

Edit: Theoretically you could get a different band to wear when you weren't wearing your set, but for me that takes away from the sentiment of having a wedding band to begin with. I'm definitely team 'dont model your wedding band after your e-ring' anyway because I think it makes the e-ring more important when it SHOULD be the wedding band, but I know I'm in the minority with that opinion =)

I have a halo engagement ring and the wedding band was custom made to curve around the halo. I can't wear the wedding band on its own. I also have a five stone anniversary band, which I wear when I don't want to wear my wedding set. This arrangement has worked very well for me. I could get additional bands to stack with my anniversary band, if I wished.

ETA: The anniversary ring does not work with the wedding set or even just the engagement ring. That set was made to go together.

I'd have it custom made with a change to the head so that it sits up higher and will allow a straight band instead of a curved/shaped one to sit flush. I'm a gap hater, and with four kids it's not always practical to wear an engagement ring, but any time I am in public I wear some kind of band, even if it's just my stainless steel 2mm band. I'd much prefer a matched set that allows me to wear my band solo.

If you really like the wedding set I would get it. I like the idea of having another band you can wear when you don't want to wear your rings.

Thanks ladies! I loved the suggestions. I have a band to wear separately. The funny thing is the wedding set looks bigger because it gives a wider look, which i already get satisfied with my anni. band.

It also doesn't sit up high (center) which i had wanted. BUT the problem is I can only spend $8k total. I believe in spending a lot on the setting because to me , the setting IS the ring. BUT if I get only a 1 carat, or .90, I fear that it would appear relatively small to what others wear in my social circles (2 carat +).

I figured if I did that I could get a diamond halo to beef up the small 1 carat. :read:

Question:

How much larger does a 1 carat look w/ a diamond halo? Does it make it appear like a 1.5?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Re: If you liked a wedding set, but the engagement ring woul

It depends on how big the halo is. Some halos are teeny tiny and some use larger melee diamonds. If you know what size the halo is you could add that to the overall mm measurement of the diamond and then figure out what 'size' that corresponds to. So if your halo adds 1 mm (0.5 to each side), and the 1 carat RB is 6.5 mm then that would be 7.5 mm which is between 1.5 and 1.6 carats (see size chart)

Wow thanks! So i guess I need a 1.5 then to make it look like a 2. or buy a 1.3 and it will look like a 1.75.

I didn't want to spend more than $8k total. I saw a G diamond today and it was not white enough for me.
I will prob need $2000 for the setting. That leaves me w/ $6k for the stone. :((

Re: If you liked a wedding set, but the engagement ring woul

well it depends on the size of the halo, all halos are different size so if you know the actual mm measurement then you could calculate.

Re: If you liked a wedding set, but the engagement ring woul

My halo with my 1.02 rb makes it look like over a 2+ carat. I have larger melee than most halos though. I did not want my halo looking like diamond chips reflecting light.
