I have not-so-little fingers, so I want something that will take up quite a bit of handspace. But it will be set (at least temporarily) between 2 round or pear sapphires. So how much size diff. do you think these would have?

The reason I say only these is that he is going to have to finance about the last $500-700 and 6 month free financing is available on these. But if any of the other major stores (w/ financing) have something, you can point that out to me too:)

There is no way to tell which is "better" by those numbers...or any numbers for that matter. If I HAD to chose one, I''d go with #1 unless #2 looked better to my eyes.

I agree with moremoremore. #1 is better in theory when compared to #2, just because of its depth. #2 is way too deep IMO

I just ran a search on Pricescope and there are three emerald cut diamonds H colour, b/n 0.85-0.95, VS2 for: $3072, $2675, and $3047.

I personally would go for the drop in clarity from VVS2 to VS2 (no discernable difference to the naked eye) and you save quite a bit and will probably not have to rely on finance. If you haven''t had a look it''s worth checking it out.

you should aim for a depth of 66 or less and a table 60 to 66---------------you will end up with a deep flat stone with those you are considering

This is listed with Blue Nile and looks superb--?

Could not agree more that VVS is serious overkill for visual quality only. Unless you value these grades for some symbolic meaning - there is no more to them.

And given size around 1ct, H (not to say I ) color garde would be just as colorless as G. This almost certainly holds upon casual inspection of the stone side by side, and definitely does once they are set. Just my opinion, but I have no reason to believe this is just me. Grading diamonds takes training and special conditions - so differences between these high color grades are not easily visible at all.

If you''re willing to come down in grades to H, SI1, then you can even get a 1.00ct diamond from DCD for only $2,528. You''d have to check with DCD but at SI1 the inclusions may not be obvious to the naked eye and H colour may not be obvious either. There are plenty of others in the VS1-SI1/G-I range around 1 carat to select from, again worth considering in my opinion.
