We have moved for two months already. It just occurs to me to ask this. Do we have to change the address on the social security card? How about our health insurance? I thought I just have to inform my company then they will contact the health insurance provider, but we haven''t got letter from those companies. SO I am worried now. I gotta do something about it.

Yes, I would contact everyone - insurance, banks, everything. Even if your company did, there''s no harm in checking.
I don''t know anything about SS cards, sorry, but I assume the answer is also yes.

I have never notified SS office of moving. Are you expecting something from them? If you are, then I would notify them... because you don''t want that info in someone else''s hands (your card, etc). That said, I find that they have always been able to track me down... to mail me that SS statement - I think they get it from the address on file when you file your taxes.

Hope that helps!

I''ve never notified SS, I don''t think that should be an issue, but the health insurance company I would.

Also, did you do an official change of address online through the post office? At least in the US, that seems to take care of most things...

Thanks guys.

Amber, thanks for reminding me. I will change the address now. As matter of fact, we have not received any mails in the last two months. That''s why I started to get worried.

I have only notified SS when I changed my last name. Healthcare should be handled through your employer as long as you informed them of change of address. (You also need to inform your employer to make sure all you tax documents go to the correct adress- that also includes banks, insurance companies, cc companies) Sometimes companies are lax in updating their records, you need to check with your employer, etc. to make sure they made the change.

You are usually responsible for informing everyone of the address change. But you don''t usually need to inform SS.

Wait - did you fill out a form with the post office for change of address? You can do it online, too.

We''ve moved about 3 times in the past 3 years, and as we get our fwded mail, we remember to change addresses for things like the credit cards, car payment, magazine subscriptions, etc. Our moves haven''t been huge distances, so it usually only takes a week or two longer for something to arrive.

For insurance and tax forms, we just change our address with our employer. Everything government related will find you when you fill out your tax forms - or if you purchased your new home, even faster, I think, because your names are attached to the deed on public record. Your tax forms should come to the new address because your employer submits that (that is, if you notified your employer of your move). I don''t know how that works if you''re self-employed, though.
