What''s a reasonable amount of time for him to hang on to the stone, while we wrap up our comparison shopping? I''m going to view a stone today, but I know that I won''t walk out with it at this point (even if it was "perfect")....as I''ve got one or two more offerings to check out before the end of the week. I have no problem letting him know this, but I''m curious to know if it''s unreasonable to put him on hold for a few days. I can''t and won''t drop $6000 before I''m sure I''ve seen all my options, and I''ve picked the best one. Thanks

It is difficult to say how many days a particular source will allow a re-seller to hold onto a diamond for a potential sale. I'd suggest that if the diamond seems "perfect", that you say it is probably the one and make every effort to clear up any other shopping within a two day time frame. If the stone does not totally please you, then be honest and let it go back to its owner so that someone else may be allowed to see and buy it.

There is no hard and fast rule on these things. It has a lot to do with your relationship with the re-seller and their relationship, if any, with the diamond owner. Diamond dealers live on rapid turnover of their merchandise because of already slim profit margins. More a than just a few days, becomes a big problem with making up your mind.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the insight David, that seems reasonable. Hopefully I can grab a pic through the Idealscope and bring it back here for the real critique! I've already got the goods on the Sarin and it looks to be a nice stone.....we shall soon find out! Stay tuned.....thanks
