Hi! I am pretty new to antique jewelry and recently added this heart padlock to my collection. I would love to know more about it! Might anyone have any additional info?

What I think I have so far is:
crown = England
18 = 18k gold
anchor = Birmingham
g = 1906?

Please correct me if I am wrong about these!

Does anyone have any information on what/who “JL” might be (topmost marking, perhaps a makers mark)? Or any other cool insights about this piece?

The closeup shot of the marking on the top of the padlock misrepresents the color — it is not that yellow!

Yes, I think you are right, Birmingham 1906.
I don't know about JL.
Sometimes the manufacturer is impossible to figure out.
It's so pretty!

Edit: I just found this

@stracci2000 You are amazing!!! Thank you! There it is…the same JL in the diamond. It’s so cool to see that the manufacturer also made cigarette cases, spoons, tongs, etc (and whatever a vesta is). I love the unraveling of little details on these pieces. And thank you also for confirming that I didn’t botch the decoding of the other symbols, as I really wasn’t sure!

Another question: Is there anything strange about the use of 18k for this item? After looking more at similar antique padlocks, many more of them seem to be made in 9k gold. I don’t have a gold testing kit, so I can’t confirm that it is 18k, but does anyone see any reason to question the stamp or the piece? I promise that my feelings won’t be hurt if I missed a red flag, so please feel free to tell me if so!
