I need to send a high school grad gift to the daughter of my husband''s ex-business partner. I have not seen the daughter for about 4 years.
She is graduating from Beverly Hills high, she''s an actress and singer. I have no idea what to send. (She has soooo much !!) A check seems too easy,
but if I have to I will send one. I''d like to send something for her to open and keep. But being she is in LA and I''m sure hipper than I could ever guess, I''m just
clueless! I thought of the Tiffany Peace necklace. Is this too high school?

Any ideas???

So nice of you to put some thought into this. I would agree with your misgiving over the peace pendant. It is kinda old school.
She''s an actress, a singer. Perhaps an autobiography/collection of songs from one of her favorite artists? Or a piece of interesting art?

I asked my daughter, who is a college sophmore, what she remembers receivng that she really liked and she suggests giving her a blanket monogrammed with her college-to-be's theme.... (assuming she's going and you can find out where).

bebe - i have a great suggestion for you.

these are brand new on the market, and people of the age group you''re talking about LOVE them:

The best HS grad gift I got was $100 worth of quarter rolls--I NEVER had trouble finding enough change to do my laundry in college! But . . . those would be a bit heavy to send.

Assuming she''s attending college, I think anything for dorm life would be appropriate. We see a lot of monogrammed laundry bags, hooded sweatshirts from the school, blankets, etc.

My son got a gift certificate to his new college bookstore...can be used to buy spirit wear (sweatshirts, hats, pants, shorts..) He LOVES it...of course he doesn''t live in Beverly Hills....

bebe - here''s the link to the deos site directly and where they''re sold.

more accurately - they''re DEOS CVRZ ( ie covers)

i would imagine she''d want the crystal ones....

Not sure what college she is going to, USC or UCLA I think.

Yeah, the Peace necklace is cheesy - got it!

Hmm, those earbuds are cool, but do they only fit an iPod or iPhone?
Where do I buy them ? (I want some!!)

Totally don''t know what to do.
Gift card to BB&B ? so lame!!

thanks Whit. But I can''t buy them from that site ... It looks like a few selected stores around the country might sell them, SAKS. Target it seems gets them late July.
I can''t wait quite that long!

I do like this idea !!

$195.00 for the crystal ones. Is this right - yikes!!

BF''s sister is graduating this weekend and also has EVERYTHING. We ended up buying her a Tiffany''s pendant, the one with an initial.

They also have it in gold if you''re looking to spend $750

I plan to engrave the back of the pendant with 2009.

I also recommend something from Tiffany. An initial pendant is a nice idea. She will get so much money for graduation she won''t remember who gave her what. Another gift idea is a beautiful pen.

This is so hard, harder than I thought. This child has traveled the world, been there, done that. Like I said her father was my husband''s business
partner (20 yrs) and I did watch her grow up, until the last few years. She has so much, I feel any little gift will be bleh to her. I hope I''m wrong,
but from what I know....

H and I are thinking a check, even though she will get lots of money, hopefully she would use it for something she wants. Traditional gifts seem
out the window. I just can''t seem to get creative enough on this one.

I''d get her this, or this.
Nice ideas. You''d be surprised how when it comes to kids who have everything and can buy themselves anything they want still appreciate gifts that come with some thought.

If your budget allows (and assuming she''s aware of the brand, I suppose), how about a small agenda book from Hermes? Or even the notebook cover. I think they''re both easily under $500. Definitely classier than the school schedule books

yeah, Ellen, I was kinda thinking that direction again. Tiffany has a necklace with stars on it. She she wants to be a "star" someday, I thought that might be appropriate.
But again, I''m afraid it might be too cheesy. Ugggg...

Hmmm ... How about one of these cute pieces to commerate the date?

I know that this sounds lame but my favourite graduation gift was a coin set commerating the year that I graduated. I still have it to this date ... it''s packed away somewhere but it really meant a lot to me because it had some significance and was timeless.

If she was raised to be appreciative then I bet a nice gift wouldn''t be "bleh" to her. I vote for something from Tiff''s! I''m sure she would appreciate money but it sounds like she may have plenty. I''d go with an actual gift... Its always fun to get a gift that you like but wouldn''t normally think to purchase for yourself!

It sounds cute, but kinda risky, yanno? And even if she really did like it now, how soon would she grow out of it? That''s why I picked the two I did. I am FAR older than she is, *sniff*, but I''d wear either of them even now.

I like diamondseeker''s tiffany keys idea.

The best present I got at my graduation was a Coach skinny mini (a key chain with a little wallet attachment) To get into the dorms, you would have to card swipe; same with the laundry and meal plan for the dining hall. So, I''d throw a credit card, a little cash, my school ID and regular ID in it, and it would be the only thing I''d have to take anywhere with me, esp. going to the gym or just running out for something to eat. Nearly ALL of the girls at my school have them; I realized how useful it was till I got to school!

I like the keys and the jewelry roll ! Yay !!
Great ideas, I thought the keys were much more expensive, maybe a real small one.
The roll is neat, she travels a lot.
thanks!!

JEWELRY ROLL!!!! That''s perfect.

The necklaces - eh, she might have one already or it might not be her style (and I can see the key being a really popular graduation gift this year - you know, the opening new doors thing). But the jewelry roll is something that she probably wouldn''t walk into Tiff''s and buy herself, and she''ll definitely get use out of it since when you''re in college, you travel more than a person would thing. I really like it. Plus, you can give it with a note of something like "Because we know you''ll go so many places - Congratulations!"

I like the way you guys are thinking....!!
thanks!

Jewelry roll is my favourite so far! My graduation''s coming up too - wanna get one for me??

I also like this - it''s simple and timeless and a sweet reminder.

ETA - woo yeah, my 1000th post! Finally, a *real* PSer

I like the jewelry roll too.

Congrats Porridge!!

I love the jewelry roll idea! Especially for when she is traveling back and forth from home/school or going
on real vacations with her family! I wonder if you can have her initials put on it?

I''m going to Tiff''s early next week to check all these ideas out - I think it''s better to see it all in person.
(and to have a little blingfest at the same time, ha ha)

So, let''s see, keys, the roll, necklaces and bracelets. Surely I can find a winner in the group!!
I''m so indecisive.
