Hi gang,

First off, I have lurked here for months and thanks to this site along with GoG I made my engagment ring purchase. Equipped with a .82 H&A E VS1, Ingwer plat 4 prong setting (Thanks Marie/Jonothan!!) she said yes in August. We have been shopping around for wedding bands since our engagement and we have been fortunate enough to receive some nice jewellery from our elders. One of the pieces got my finance's attention and she will be keeping the eternity band as her wedding band. She also received a diamond ring, the specs are from eyeballing it - 1.0-1.2 ct, SI, E or F. My finance is deeply in love with her engagemnt ring because its 'sparkly' and she doesn't really know what to with an extra diamond ring.

Before the additional jewellery came into the picture - I have been exploring the idea of having a tension ring or a diamond ring with invisible settings. I was trying to go for a look where I would have 4 small princess cut diamonds form a 2x2 square set in the middle with no visible setting around the ring but only on its side.

We thought this might be a good idea still if we take out the 1ct diamond and use it for my wedding band. I would like your thoughts on whether this is a good idea - if so, maybe you can also recommend some pics or jewellers who can do this (btw, im in T_O - Toronto, Ontario). Or find other settings/rings for my wedding band that would look nice with a 1ct diamond.

Thanks gang.

[EDIT - I just realized 1.xx, I should be more clear - its closer to the 1.0-1.2 side.]

Happy, having that diamond is like having an empty canvas. Find out what type of ring style you prefer. For example do you like older inspired styles like this

? Or do you like classic styles like this

?
Or perhaps something modern like the attachment.

Happy, I''m honestly not all that fond of diamonds in men''s rings, unless they''re teeny stones. Larger stones just make me think of rap star or Texas oil mogul or Tony Soprano-type rings. That said, other people may feel differently and you should go with what you love. Of Tony Geko''s ideas, the top two are nicely masculine, but I''m afraid the last one looks like a woman''s ring to me. Sorry.

The inspiration for the last ring came from this site universaltitanium. Tension settings are inherently cool looking, I saw the three tension and wondered what a round would look like and then found the other ring with a round. Sorry about that. Maybe this next one would qualify as a modern gents ring

. There''s a couple of galleries of gents rings at wixonjewelers and howard.ca .

Thanks for the links and input there. I''ve seen a number of tension rings I might end up with. But I can''t see myself wearing a ring like this everyday. It a little too much for everyday wear and if I was to wear this only for certain occasions I''m not really utilizing the diamond.

Thank you again for all your insights/input. I might have to look at other options or find other ways to best use this diamond.

I agree with hest88 that a 1 ct diamond is too much for a men wedding band. I guess it''s going to come down to personal preference. Maybe you can have the diamond make into a pendant for your fiance to wear for the wedding. I don''t know but I don''t mind having a different diamond ring to wear for special occasions or when I feel like it.
