Hello,

I am new to this forum and would appreciate your input! I am looking at the following diamond for my fiance. It has the following measurements:

Round Brilliant
7.25 - 7.31 x 4.57 mm
1.5 carats
Depth - 62.8%
Table - 59%
Girdle - very thin to very thick, faceted
Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Good
Clarity - VVS2
Color - E
Fluorescence - None

From my research, I think this would be considered a very good cut diamond rather than an ideal cut. I was wondering if anyone knows whether there would be a large difference in the way this diamond sparkles versus an ideal cut diamond? Is it generally recommended that one purchase an ideal cut diamond if it means sacrificing a bit on the other dimensions?

Thanks,
PB

A highly symmetric diamond will probably putperform most slightly less symmetric stones, but it is not a hard rule. There probably are exceptions. No one can say how well this particular diamond works. We can now measure the performance with an ImaGem device, but no one can truly predict performance with the limited specs you have. It takes a lot of specs to make any sort of valid prediction.

Also, this diamond would face up smaller compared to an ideal cut stone of the same weight.

Ditto to elepri''s comment. An ideal cut 1.5 should measure about 7.4mm (I have a 1.53 and it measures 7.47-7.49). My feeling is, if you''re paying for a 1.5 ct stone, you want it to look like one.

Whose definition of "very good"? There are too many red flags here.

a. Depth of 62.8% not very good.
b. Very thin girdle.
c. Very thick girdle ... tells me it''s all over the place
d. *good* symmetry also indicates a chaotic stone.
