I purchased the Ideal Scope (Expert Model), Ideal Light, and a few other items.
Last weekend I spent some time looking at several diamonds, and have the following questions about what I saw. All questions are based on using the Ideal Light and with a Round diamond supported in the Ideal Light support tray.
I cannot seem to find anything on the Ideal-Scope website that answer these questions (but I do make mistakes - if so someone please point out where).
1) One diamond had white colored facet "reflections" (facet shine), a lot of them. They came and went as you moved your eye around a bit above the Ideal-Scope (those who own one one will know what I am talking about). The sales clerk indicated that it was just reflection off of the facets. However, on thinking about this - I cannot see how you could have white colored reflections from the Ideal Scope. Otherwise the diamond had a fairly uniform redish pink color (my description of what I see the color as), and good symetry.
Are these "reflections" actually white light leaking into the back of the diamond, and refracting to the viewer depending on exactly which angle you are looking through the Ideal Scope viewer lense on top? Is that a good thing, or something you would want to avoid (how would it affect that diamond in the real world)?
2) Concerning the different views and reflections/refractions you get by moving your eye around the Ideal Scope viewer lense. Are you idealy looking for a diamond that stays uniformly redish pink with good symetry, or are there certain features that are really OK that show up when you change the viewing angle slightly?
3) As I look at the "Ideal" immage on the Ideal Scope box, and on the Interpretation Chart on the Ideal-Scope website I see that the "redish area" of center table area is actually a little darker than the rest of the stone. I.e. it appears that an "Ideal" stone tends slightly towards the "Too Shallow" immage on the box and intrepretation chart.
I looked at one diamond that I remember as totally uniform in redish-pink color - including the table area, except for the black symetry "arrows" and a few other symetrical points and very small white leakage areas at edge (and points) of the "arrows". Is that a good stone - what I am looking for?
I am aware that sometimes printing is not perfect. What is right here?
I will thank all of you for your efforts to answer my questions in advance.
