Hey Everyone,

I've been doing a lot of online research on princess diamonds. I've found tons of suggestions for what to look for in a round cut diamond, but haven't had as much luck with princess cut. I know in the end it will all depend on what I like the best (or more importantly what she likes), but I'd really like to have a good starting point to begin my search. Specifically I'm looking for the ideal measurements for a 1ct princess for the following categories:

Depth%
Table%
Crown and pavilion angles
Girdle thickness
Diameter measurements

From what I've read a the optimal depth % is between 68 and 73, and the table should be < than 75%. Does that sound right? Haven't been able to find anything on the other measurements. Also, how do I find the crown and pavillion angles on the diamond I'm looking at? This isn't list on the GIA or AGS report, correct?

Thanks,

Justin

HI JayB :wavey:

The parameters for princess shaped stones are not as tried and true as those for rounds, which is probably why you haven't found a lot of definitive information on them.

Here is a link to a chart that should give you some good info on what to look for: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-grading-chart-princess.

For princesses, the crown and pavilion information will be listed on AGS reports. GIA reports don't have the crown and pavilion angles for princesses from what I have seen.

In order to make a good choice you will likely need to get ASETs, Idealscope images, and actual pictures of the diamond.

dude i feel you on this one. looking at diamonds that are labeled ideal by one of the online comps its difficult to gauge whats a good ideal.
ags reports looks like a solid thing to follow but same goes for aset image too..

good luck man. i searching for an ideal princess cut to.

I agree with both of the above posters. Ignore any labels such as "ideal cut"- it means nothing, and look at the certs, ASET images, gemologist reviews and your eyes. The princess cut chart as posted above is a good starting place for princesses. AGS stones have pavilion and crown angles on the certs and are usually a safer bet when buying unseen on the internet.
