Idea - ring design incorporating small ruby?

Hello,

I have a small but beautiful natural ruby purchased from Brad (TGT) - 0.31 carats. See pics below.

I'm in Australia and would like to have it set by a local jeweler, I'm just asking for ideas on how it could be set to best "perform".

It is for a mans ring, who likes white gold/silver (I prefer gold for ruby but oh well, not my ring!) and I think setting it east west into a band would be most low key I.e. ruby is set flat into ring - same height as the ring.

Does this mean the ruby will look fairly dull?

Where do you look for inspiration pics for male colored stone rings? I've been searching in vain for an image that matches what I was thinking.

(for my dad - ruby wedding anniversary)

Thanks in advance!

have you tried pinterest? some good keywords should get you something

i mostly just wanted to say i love your idea for setting and had been considering something similar for a mens ring for my partner. his birthstone is topaz and for a subtle mens ring i had been thinking a topaz in a gold color asscher or emerald cut set flush within a high karat gold band. hes not into jewellery at all but i'm hopeful i can change his mind one day :P

I'm also in Australia but couldn't recommend a jeweller... i would definitely find someone who has made something similar. i would want photos before putting down any money

none are perfect but all these pictures from putting keywords- mens ruby ring, into pinterest.

none of them are perfect but they're a talking point. a picture you could take into a jeweller and say i like this, i dont like this, white metal not gold etc. none of them are an east west emerald cut but they could all be done that way

There are lots of ideas in the Mens Ring Eye Candy thread over at "Show Me the Bling".

Thanks everyone for photos and directing me to men's eye candy (wasn't aware of the thread) - the stone itself is probably too small to span the width of a mans ring lengthways, but it could be easily set into a normal width band sideways (east-west).

Ill just make sure it isn't covered at the back - so there's some light getting into the ruby.

For my mothers ring - She bought an older ring with 2 rubies and a stunning oec (very white) but the side oecs are quite poor quality and were probably replacement stones - so she wants to get the good stones redesigned into a more modern/also "low down" setting - three stone ring. Will look at the three stone ring thread for ideas - fun!

Would he be adverse to yellow gold just around the stone? So just a tiny bit, the rest would be white?

(My dad hates yellow gold too, it's weird.)

Hey Freke, I agree - men being obtuse!

I'm going to make a case for it (as it is to complement the one my mum is having made in yellow gold). I think yellow gold will "bring out" the ruby. I like that I've helped them find the stones (his from TGT and mums from antique ring off Ruby Lane). They have lost their original wedding rings over time and moving house etc so I think it's a lovely idea to celebrate 40 yrs.

I hope he is open to the idea of some yellow gold in the ring as high karat yellow gold really brings out the rich colour of ruby to the max. Even if bezeled, having the inner rim of yellow gold will help, sort of the same way the Tiffany etoile band has an inner rim of white around the bezeled diamonds to make them look whiter when set in yellow gold.
