I've been searching inventories online looking SI's up to I3 diamonds. I found an S13 H round for 9k. (trying to take your advice and expand my range so i can the size and color)
...and I've noticed how many of you have beautiful white diamonds and they are an H color! Amazing!

How noticeable would those types characteristic of an S13 - I2 or I3 be to the average viewer?

Has anyone ever purchased one of these diamonds in order to get the size they wanted?

D color, SI2 clarity Superbcert

Here you go...a perfect D color like you want and a great bargain b/c it's an SI2. I think the inclusion(s) would be barely noticable in this because of where they are located.

So stop your agonizing and buy it. It's WHITE and it's right at your budgeted amount of $6000 for now. When you save more (your $10,000 goal), you can upgrade.

Problem solved.

I love you guys! Phoenix - what an awesome thread!!! It was FUNNY!!!! Those ugly diamonds!! brown - spotted , yeesh!
I asked myself, "How desperate am I?"
Thx also for the superbcert site- never heard of it- that diamond was BEAUTIFUL - ICY WHITE!!!! BUT (sad face) it's too small!!!

I hear what you're saying, but I don't make large purchases like this and don't want to do it more than 1 or 2 more times you know?
Maybe to trade up in the future. I guess I'd be more embarrassed by trading up now (from my.60) to a "not much larger" diamond. I want to be happy w/ the size since I'm so unhappy w/ my .60.

I think i'm gonna have to settle below 2ct though, and just get a larger setting; framing w/ diamonds or something to "beef it up".
My mother thinks that State Farm Jewelery Insurance (i have on my .60 ring) won't pay in full if lost - she thinks wearing a $10,000+ diamond is "crazy." What do u think??

PATTY - thx for the superbcert diamond thread- GORGEOUS WHITE WHITE DIAMOND!

ALSO: did you guys ever buy from Superbcert?? what can u tell me about their rep?? etc.?? (love their stuff! prices are great!)

By the way, this is the diamond i was describing at faycullen.com:

Have you actualy seen an i3 diamond?
I dont think you have because then you wouldnt need to ask if you had.
There are very few acceptable i1's out there and id venture to say no i2 or i3s that arent frozen spit.

The ring looks very nice - those eight tiny prongs dissapers from view even in the magnified picture. I could just wish the stone was an old cut too

The setting must be half the price of the stone there...

I would not jump to call anythign below I1 "frozen spit" either. Honestly, I am not very familiar with what goes under the I3 grade: I1 and I2 would definitely show inclusions (ok. you may get lucky to find some I1 clean at arm's length, but not exactly sustaining close scrutiny). Worth asking for such a grade and D-F color. Some cuts would definitely do better hiding all that "activity" - and I do not have a large table in mind.

Surely you know that I1s that look cleaner than the name are called SI3 by EGL - and you may well consider the extra discount that this Lab's signature attracts. You can always stick with EGL's D/E-SI3 and get the best of both worlds. Besides, looking for a god deal like that, inspecting stones and appraisal seems reasonable to factor in anyway.

This being said, it does not sound easy to beat the price at FayCullen - esp. when the setting gets factored in.

Here's an "example" (2.5 cts, F-SI3). This was picked almost at random - there are quite a few listings like this.

And a 3.11 F-I1 since I went looking. Either stone is listed by a few sellers, as you may expect.

Yes, whitediamonds, I have bought from Superbcert. I have an I1 stone from them (G color).

thanks for those 2 diamonds- they are amazing! too bad there isn't a picture of them-- will look into getting mor einfo!

RE: H&A cuts - my "family jeweler" told me that's a bunch of boloney re: eightstar and H&A cuts - just to get a "regular" cut >/?
He is oriental and doesn't speak much English. He has tried helping me w/ diamonds before, but has a limited inventory.

What are your thoughts?

I am very surprised your 'family jeweler' could not manage to spend some time with you also explaining basic color and clarity grades. That way you could have seen them in person rather than having to rely on online picturs which are faulty at best, depending on monitor calibration and computer settings.

If someone tells you that your family jeweler is wrong, that H&A etc is not baloney...who will you listen to? Countless people have told you the same things over and over on these forums, but yet you have the same questions. Who will you believe? When does that belief happen?

I also have a hard time believing someone interested in 'icy white' diamonds (which by the way is NOT a term used heavily on these boards) would settle for an H when they are so disinterested in their 'yellow' I colored stone. To drop from a D with sparkle and ideal cut to a potential H I3 just because it's big...something is wrong here with the priority structure you now have, especially in light of your other posts. What exactly are you after? Many people have come here and been able to get something great with the help and education they got here....but somehow I don't see any sort of natural progression happening here with you. Why is that?

Bottom line. You are NOT going to get an excellently cut 2c D colored stone that has no eye-visible inclusions for $6k. I'm sorry, it is not going to happen. So what's more important? That D color or a big stone? The two may not go hand in hand. This is not rocket science, and if you plan to move beyond the question-asking stage...it's time to make some real decisions here.

Ah, but technically you don't have that right, WD, as I believe this is a private forum. It's not even a private forum with a disinterested monitor who is running things like a common carrier. And you're right, Mara doesn't have to like it, as I don't believe she moderates. However, she has been extrodinarily helpful and polite, which I for one appreciate.

Simply a word to the wise.

Wait, how old are you again? Did we ever truly figure this one out?

Follow your own advice, at any rate, as your last three posts previous to this one are all "nasty," ones aimed at harassing Mara. Well, actually they're not truly mean, but I believe in your childish eyes they're desperate attempts at being so, so maybe you shouldn't say anything at all from now on.
