Hi all,

Thanks to everyone for your help in other posts. Whiteflash made video of these two stones for me to review. The larger is the I and smaller is the H. I really dont see much of a difference in these videos. I am leaning toward the larger one.

Would you put an I in white gold or plat? The setting is a simple solitaire Tiffany style.

Thank you

I'd say if you already budgeted for platinum, stick with that. I had 18k with my halo, now platinum by chance because I found an antique setting I liked that is platinum. My wedding band is die struck 18k, and I have stackers of all sorts rose gold, 14k white and yellow, 18k yellow and 18k white. I clearly don't subscribe to the everything must match club myself. It's there to be worn and enjoyed and if I like how it looks I wear it!

If you think she'll be a stacker though...surprise her with a little thin stacking spacer band to put between her ring and something with pave in it. There are super cute beaded and twisted stackers all over etsy and it will help protect her ring from wear.

I can definitely see the tint in the I color stone, but I can definitely see it is larger, as well. If you think she'll value greater size over higher color, I'd go for it!

Platinum is always my top choice for white metals.

It's not good or bad, and it's not really going to look yellow. It has to do with her personal preference for color. If someone says they want "icy white", I would not recommend I color. However, for a person with little knowledge about diamonds and who hasn't expressed a preference on color, then I think I color is reasonably safe. In natural lighting, an ideal cut I color stone will face up white. The great thing about Whiteflash is that in the unlikely event she says she wishes her stone was whiter, you can always upgrade it later with a higher color stone.

It's not yellow. There is no sin in choosing a little extra size. There are many many many people who participate on PS that do not have D-G stones. I let that fear get talked in to me first time around too. Started with a smaller H, then went to an I and now I have a K (but with Fluor) and am very happy.

If you think everyone on here who loves diamonds only values icy white, I urge you to take a stroll through some of the show me the bling threads.

My e-ring is an I in platinum and I love it. Doesn't look yellow at all and looks very white and beautiful. I also agree with the advice that, unless she has shown an interest in a higher color, has demonstrated she's color sensitive or said she wanted icy white, the I is the way to go. I have I's and J's and love them all. It's the quality of the cut that matters most and will make an I or J or even lower colors face up very white.

Ok wow, all those diamonds just convinced me to stop worrying!! Thanks everyone.

She has said she likes warmer color diamonds but in old cuts, so like if I was getting her an August Vintage cut or something I could go that route. Alas, they are way way way out of my price range for the time being. That's like a milestone anniversary dream at this point. Ha.

Thanks again all

I think with those chunkier arrows on bottom of the I, it'll have a little hint of the feel of transitional cut diamonds, which sometimes have lgf in the 75-76 range. I think you're good to go! Chunky but excellent performance!

And for fun...take look at this Cinderella story. Best ever!

Back again, still sticking with an I color but found one on Whiteflash that was a 1.225 I VS2. Its just a smidge more expensive but I asked them to compare for me and the new one I was even told is a bit whiter! The 1.16 was a "true I" and this one leans more toward a high I. So excited I stumbled across it, sent a check today and it's going to production in 10ish business days when the check clears! Decided to get a rose gold band (same style as before) but a platinum head. Diamond is different than the other one with its proportions. This one has a 57 table versus a 56 and the lower girdle is 77, but it sparkles just as brilliantly. It's going to be beautiful, can't wait. Thanks everyone for your help, I'll come back to post when it arrives.

I have in my own collection an I color set in an 18k white gold Vatche Grace halo with F color diamonds, and a K color set in platinum. It's a matter of personal taste, and you won't typically see a contrast with the platinum and I color.
