I am so totally bummed about it. They have no idea where it is. It was mailed last friday signature required. The package label tracks and said that its estimated arrival date is Nov. 22nd. Well when I track now it still says the 22nd. I called a couple days ago and the person on the phone said that it can take up to 5 days. Well, I just called again and it is past the 5 days and they have no clue. The new agent said that that it can take up to 48 hours to get a call back from them.

Obviously the package was insured, but I dont want to have to go through picking stones and getting the ring made again. How does one go about getting the money from the insurance from the USPS???

I'm so sorry, but I wouldn't give up hope yet. Whenever there is a holiday, it seems as though USPS is more than usually slow. See if it shows up today or tomorrow, and then start to worry.

Please keep us updated. I'm really looking forward to seeing photos once you get it (see, positive thinking!)

Yep, give it until Monday or so given the holiday, and try not to worry (easier said than done!). I've seen these things work themselves out mysteriously. I've been on the receiving end of a shipping mishap, and it's really upsetting, but hopefully it will be ok!

Keeping my fingers crossed that it will still arrive! If you do have to file a claim, then the sender has to initiate the process at their post office. I believe there's paperwork that needs to be sent to a central office for approval. Having been though this once myself, be sure to document everything - phone conversations, etc. and get the names of employees you talk to. Good luck, and keep us posted!

I'm actually in the process of filing an insurance claim for something that was damaged in the mail (not lost). I had to give the post office (ANY post office) the damaged piece, packaging/envelope, original postal insurance receipt, and original purchase receipt. But the claim could have been submitted by either the sender or the addressee, as long as they had all the information. The hardest part is getting that little insurance receipt stub. If you end up filing the claim, you would have to ask the sender to mail it to you. It was easy for me because the sender was my grandmother, but I'd imagine it might be harder with a vendor. Some vendors may have policies regarding how they deal with lost packages and insurance claims, so I'd let them know if it doesn't come in the next few days.

I will have to wait until I get home to see if it arrived today. I am in constant contact with Scott. He is very upset that it isnt here. He spoke to the people at his post office this morning and they assured him there is nothing to worry about. I wasnt worried on Tuesday or Wednesday, but now it is getting to me. Thank goodness I know my maillady. If it didnt I would be worried more, but she is great and I know that once it is on her route I will get it. I told her that I was expecting it and on Wednesday she stuck a sticky note to the rest of my mail that said sorry no package with a sad face. She is so nice. It just really upsets me cause this has been a long time in the making and I dont want to have to start over again.

I thought I lost my DanielM earrings from usps. It was over a holiday and they never arrived. It took almost a month, we were just about to put in the insurance claim and they arrived 1 day short of a month.

Good luck, randiantquest! That's so disappointing but it really could be because of the holiday. Keep your chin up!

Were they sent registered mail?

I'm sorry to hear that, its completely frustrating when you're in this position. I hope your ring shows up tomorrow and saves yours sanity for the weekend.

I understand why jewelers like to use the USPS, they will ensure stones and/or finished jewelry, but when you look at the track record of FedEx and their fantastic and immediate tracking (anytime someone looks at your package, it is noted on the website and it'll send you emails every time it moves), well I would prefer FedEx and I would assume any 'risk' as far as being uninsured. I've shipped musical instruments, extremely valueable, via FedEx for a very long time and never was one lost or even late. Seems to me like you NEED the insurance offered by the USPS because they don't always have a great handle on where a package is and when it was there and who handled it.

Keeping my fingers crossed it shows up soon.

It did not arrive today. Talk about sucking the wind out of my sails. I did go get my nails done in the hopes that in some cosmic way it would help it get here. Once a LIW, always a LIW. Is there are recipe for ring in the mail chicken? I told Scott that maybe I should call them tell them they had better find it soon or they will have to cut a hefty check. Maybe that will light a fire under their butts!

Thanks for the well wishes. Us PSers have a way of getting together and making things happen.

Check in person at your local post office. I sent something last Xmas requiring a signature and the postman neglected to leave a note when the person was not home - the package sat at the PO for 3 weeks. My friend called and was told it was not there. Go check in person.

RQ hope your gorgeous ring turns up on Monday!

I hope so, too. All I can say is that holidays are holidays, and most people leave work early on the 23d, government workers being no exception, so I would give them time till Monday. I hope it will turn in on Monday. Thanksgiving and X-mas weeks are very slow.

I am hoping that it's only delayed because of the Thanksgiving holidays. What is the update with the tracking? Has it arrived at your local post office yet? To make a claim, you will need the receipt, the little insurance stub and also proof of value of the item sent.

Ugh! I hope your ring shows up soon! I just shipped a ring off to be reset and I'm anxiously checking the tracking about once an hour (despite the fact that it is going to WA and there is no way its late enough there to get an update. I do wish that I had sent it fedex despite being able to insure it with USPS... I love that you get an update everytime something is scanned and you can track things obsessively.

I'm sure it's just because of the holiday, and good luck!!

Oh that stinks! I'm so sorry that the ring hasn't arrived yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it shows up today or Monday.

Radiant, just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and praying that your ring shows up tomorrow! Hugs!

Holidays always delay my packages, so I assume it's because of this as well.

Oh no! Fingers crossed it comes tomorrow RQ!

RQ, I'm crossing everything that it arrives tomorrow!!!!

Me too, I was waiting for three packages to arrive for the longest time and finally got them all on Friday and Saturday. Radiantquest, I hope the holiday just delayed your ring. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Good Luck :!:

I am waiting for several packages. One sender has received the notification that the package safely arrived at the post office. No one was in to sign for it. So I hope to receive it tomorrow. There is a huge delay over Thanksgiving.

I think it'll show up this week RQ. Hang in there!! :))

Hound them like crazy.

See the thing is since he sent it registered mail it doesnt show all the "ports" it hits if that is what you want to call it. So we still have no more information that we had the day it was sent. The only way to get tracking information is to file a claim, but I cant file a claim until Saturday!!! It still says expected delivery 22nd. The person that I spoke to that said they would call me back in 48 hours never called back, of course. I called my local PO today and she said that it has not made it to them. She told me she would look into it and call me back. I am so freaking frustrated. I mean there is a registered insured package somewhere between here and California and NOBODY knows where it is?!?!? I emailed Scott today to keep him updated. Of course his check made it on Tuesday and now here it is the following Monday and its still not here. Anyway, I asked him if he still has the wax that he used so that if it has to be made again it wont be from scratch. I am actually getting a bad taste in my mouth about the whole thing. If I have to go through all this and wait another 6 months for it to be cut from rough, then hoping that it can be perfectly calibrated so they fit in the setting that Scott already has and then have to wait for it to be cast and set and all that. I dont know if I have it in me to do again! What did I do to deserve this? Is karma angry at me for something?

I'm sorry to hear that no real progress has been made. Fingers crossed that it arrives this week! Now that I think about it, I also have a package that's several days late, but not to the degree of yours. It's awful to put so much thought into a project and become really excited about it, only to have it lost in the mail. ;(

Hopefully you won't need this, but here's some info about filing a claim: http://www.usps.com/insuranceclaims/

Registered Mail is very safe and very slow. I've had shipments take 2 weeks to get to customers within my own state. Registered parcels go into safes at transition points and I think they're sometimes overlooked for a few days, especially during busy holidays. Be patient -- hard I know. The upside is that I've shipped many, many Registered orders and have not had a loss to date (knocking on wooden head!)
