I bought the ring at a jewerly store going out of buisness sale. This store is very high, but everything in the store was 80% off. I think I got a great deal; what do u think?
Orginial price 9,999. Sales person said it just came off sale for 5,400. 80% off of 9,999 comes to the price I purchased for= 1,999
Its been tested and is real.

1.02 ct., VS2, H. Not sure about the cut and do not have papers in hand at moment. But its not too shallow or deep. I would guess very good to excellent. I only have the jeweler papers But I have had it tested and its real.

price paid 1,999. Do you think I got a great deal on this ring? Looking for opinions.

Well, it is customary for retailers to apply 100% premium on their stones, so a 50% discount gives you a bearable price and 80% a nice surprise. You could always run a search using the tools on the front page of pricescope to get an idea, but the price you have paid lookds like a non-shocking good buy. Well, but the 9999 IS straight shocking! Also, the cut, bla, bla, bla, should be factored in. For the bottom line of it: the rough was around 1000/ct, the cutter wasted 50% and has to make a living, the rest is for us, buyers, to grunge about!

Maybe, maybe not... H, VS-2 by who's standards? Is the diamond lab graded or is the grade the opinion of the jeweler? Some jewelers are excellent graders and others are good guessers. We're not trying to rain on your parade, just pointing out the things that you need to know in order to be able to determine whether you really did get a good deal or not. Going out of business or not, we don't know any jewelers who are going to lose money on anything that they could make money on... A one carat, H, VS-2, legitimately graded should sell for considerably more than that even if it is cut poorly. Considering that most jewelers double or triple the cost of their product when selling it to the public, you've got our eye brows going up a bit... Take the diamond to an independent GIA Graduate Gemologist and have it checked out to make sure that you're getting what you've paid for. Refer to the "appraisers" link above for a directory...

I agree. Was it graded by GIA or at very least EGL?
Who tells you it's H/VS 2 and not M/SI 2?

Giangi,

I totally agree.... I remember one jeweller who was
grading his own stones IN the setting.... telling me
stupidities like its an H color when the crown was
so yellow when looking from the side that I was pretty sure it was at least an M color or worse.
Those dishonnest jewellers make me laugh...and much more
now than before !!!

Trichrome.

BTW : in which region of Italy are you located?

Hiya!!
I'm in Emilia Romagna.

I agree with you about overgrading... Who tells you it's not an M or even lower with very strog fluorescence?
Also (but I hope I'm wrong and you got the deal of the century) I don't see too many excellent cut H/VS 2 without a certificate. I mean, a $55.00 EGL would be definitely worth it!

Tell us if you get it appraised!

I only have the jewlers papers, but have had another jewler in town look at it under a microscope and test it for the real thing. (this jewler does not like the other and admitted that I got a good deal that he could not match) I have had a friend look at it that recently bought a SI1 and he said he can see a little black carbon from the bottom of his and mine is eye clean all the way around. Under a 10x scope I could only see one spec of carbon that I had to really search for (moving the ring around). As far as color, I'm not sure but H is not the best. Sometimes it looks colorless other times it seems to have a shade of yellow in it. Guess its what kind of light I'm in or that may just be H. Well thanks for everyones input, so far.

A Whiter Shade of Yellow...

H color? You shouldn't see any yellow tint in an H color diamond.

Of course the light used, and the position of the diamond, as well as the grader's eyes - along with the comparison diamond are crucial to accurately grading the color of the stone.

Generally speaking if you see color, then it is probably a J or even lower.

Send it to AGS or GIA for a grading report... Don't guess, as each color grade can have very significant value differences.

Hey we had a thought... Did anybody bother to check this puppy for 'clarity enhancement'? Fracture filled would definitely explain the price...

A differnt jeweler check under a microscope for this and he didn't see anything that raised his brow, but he also said he is an expert in enhancing. Oh, well. Thanks for the insight but I think I got my moneys worth. Thanks for the input all.
