My local jeweler got this Viachi ring in... I think it "the one"... the perfect e-ring for my girlfriend.
I think the only other one in the running right now is this Beverley K.

Viachi vs. Beverley K... who do you think is the better designer? I know name isn't everything, but which name is more "impressive"?

Pearlman's hasn't gotten back to me yet about the cost of the Bev K, but I assume it is going to be less than the Viachi. My local jeweler quoted me as $3,400 for the Viachi ring in platinum, including setting the diamond I already own, grading my stone, and giving me an insurance appraisal on the whole ring.

This one is the Viachi (it has a CZ in it right now for display):

So what do you think... which would you go with?

I think it probably would depend more upon how much detail your GF likes. The first one is highly engraved and if that is her preference, she might think the Beverly K was too plain?

I LOVE the Bev K, but you know more than we do, what your GF would like.

Linda

does your gf like the bezel setting? it''s a matter of taste. i''ve never heard of viachi, nor am i very familiar with beverly k, so their names mean little to me.

She likes antique style rings, so that is why I think she will like the hand engraving, but she doesn't want it to be overly gaudy. I think this Viachi is nice, but not too large or over-done, like some other rings I have seen that have hand engraving.

As far as the bezel set Bev. K, she likes bezel set because she is scared she might damage a prong-set diamond if she is too rough with it, but I think she is being paranoid, she doesn't do anything that would be a problem. She likes both prong and bezel, so I don't think that is much of a concern, the only thing that IS a concern, is I think the bezel on the Bev. K is too thick.. it looks like a large smooth modern-style bezel on an antique-style milgrained ring, it seems to kind of clash in my opnion. I still really like the ring though.

Both are lovely, but I''d have to agree that the bezel on the Beverly K ring is WAAAY too intrusive and seems to be taking up a good deal of visual space on that ring - to the point where it looks as if it''s eating the centre stone

- the rest of it is beautiful. I''ve heard great things about Bill Pearlman from the posters on this forum, so I would give him a call and see what he says regarding the two design firms.

I prefer the Beverly K, I love the bezel halo...would love it more if it were a tiny bit thinner. The first one is pretty, but it has a lot of engrqaving and milgrain, but that is a personal taste.

I like the Beverly K but the bezel looks to "heavy" to me. Maybe they could scale it down a bit and possibly even milgrain it to make it fit in more with the style of the rest of the ring?

I think I like the Viachi more, but I''m not familiar with the name. Maybe you can check with another jewelry store/vendor who carries Viachi to see if the price quote you got for the Viachi is fair?

I love Bev K. But not that setting. They have a LOT nicer round halos honestly. So if I had to pick between those EXACT settings, I wouldn't pick the Bev K. But I KNOW Bev K has settings I like better than that Viachi one (though it's very lovely), so I would probably not pick um... either.

I have to agree with gypsy here - I''ve looked through the BK settings extensively and they do have a really good choice of halos. I would choose a different one, just check Pearlmans website.
However, if you are intent on that design, I''m pretty sure Pearlmans will get yourthe BK setting ordered new so you could request to have the bezel thinned out. they shouldn''t charge you anything more than the standard price, but be prepared to wait custom time (~6weeks).

I like the viachi better because I think the Bev K has a bit too much bezel going on. I also don''t like how far out the surprise diamond sits, unless there is enough space under it for a wedding band there could be a problem with rubbing.

I think everyone means Beverly K more like this... *I hope this works*

Yay it worked

The shank is a bit thinner, so I''m not sure if that is ok?

Yes, exactly! great example prettyblues, that ones very pretty.
stevet, what do you think of a BK like the one posted by p.blues?

I think that Bev K is nice. My only issue is that it looks a little to busy under the diamond. I like how the first ring I posted (the Viachi) has the halo, then a smaller, simple halo under it. That Bev K looks more gaudy to me (I don't like things that remind me of royal crowns, and that one does). Also, I think it might sit up too high, that is a bit of a concern for my girlfriend.
Really the only reason I picked the Bev K that I did was that as far as "facts" go, it seemed to match what my girlfiend wants more than anything else (minus the huge bezel). But even though it meets her "checklist" it doesnt seem to pull those elements together well. When I saw the Viachi in person, it just seemed to speak to me... but then again, I haven't seem the Bev K in person, so maybe that one would too, lol.

EDIT:
I just looked at every halo ring that Bev K makes listed on Pearlman's site and they do make nicer ones that the original one I posted.... the nicest being the one PrettyBlues posted... but I still like the Viachi more.
I am glad I am getting some input on this... it is reassuring my choice, even though that might not have been the intent, lol.

I''m a huge Bev K fan (I ordered a set recently), but I think that particular Viachi seems nicer under the crown. One major issue though--there is no way a wedding band is going to sit flush with that lower "donut". Just something to keep in mind. I can''t quite visualize how it would look with a band. Either a gap, or a curved band. Also, how high does it sit? I don''t know what size stone you picked, but a smaller stone in a high setting might look off. JMO of course. I''ve never seen Viachi before, but I know I''ve seen a very similar ring to that somewhere.

I just e-mailed my Jeweler about the wedding band issue... I hadn''t thought of that. I definitely want a band that can sit flush. This Viachi design is brand new, so he is going to ask if they make a matching band with a curve to wrap around the "mini halo" that in under the diamond.

I also like the Bev K rings with the prong set halos MUCH better!!!

I really, really dislike curved bands and would get a ring that allows a wedding band to sit close.

You may want to look at this one from Ritani. I hear the workmanship is good, you have the protection of the bezel and I believe you can wear a regular band with it. Best of all its $2700 from Pearlmans.

Those 2 links to Pearlman''s are very very nice, I might have to look into that design, however, I''ve already got the center stone, it is from her grandmother''s ring so those particular ones won''t work.
Also, it looks like they have the same problem as the Viachi in my original post with the wedding band. It looks like they also have a "mini-halo" under the main halo.

I think that Ritani is too simple... it needs something more under the diamond.
Thanks for the suggestions though!
