Unfortunately the few B&Ms I went into only sold mounted stones......which meant I couldn''t get a look at the stones properly. They were willing to sell me the stones separately but the stones were dull and had windows.

I looked at a 5.21ct, (a little too big for my budget), blue sapphire from Myanmar. Certified by Gubelin gemlab in Switzerland. Not sure if that is a reputable lab for grading. Nobody else seemed to offer any certs except inhouse.

The 5.21 ct was a Modified brillant cut measuring 11.22 x 9.51 x 5.21mm. This was the best in terms of color out of the lot.

The cut was nowhere exciting as the color change sapphire richard wise has on his site.

I will make an appointment with more reputable dealers of gems here in singapore to get a better. I dont'' hold much hope in finding anything good here though

Gübelin is as reputable as they come. Generally used for valuable/high quality stones - but don't read too much into it.

thankyou oldmancoyote

just got the price for the stone by itself.....USD 19,674. Reasonable for the pedigree...pity about the cut and my budget.

Beware. There''s no turning back.

Tell me about it...I have been looking at all YOUR lovelies Harriet!

I have had a sapphire on my wishlist for awhile now.

Do you still wear your diamond?

But of course. I replied to you on my "Shh..." thread. I trust you weren't chiding me there?

P.S. I've been trying to ferret out good gem dealers in Singapore, but haven't found any. I'll let you know if I do.

Harriet, I don''t joke when it comes to talking about diamonds and gems.........

I think there maybe a few vendors in Singapore who sell loose gems. Finding them may not be the problem...trusting them and getting the usual singapore sales pitch is!

Yes. Unless you''re a gem expert yourself, you have to be able to trust your sources. This was one of the first lessons that Rick Martin (www.artcutgems) taught me when I began my little hobby.

Hi Sparkles, I just saw your thread here. Canary should have quite a few sapphire rings on their showcase as well as a few loose gems. They should also be able to source more gems if you were to give them your requirements eg: untreated or heated, origin, shape etc.
