Could someone tell me if this is a good price for this diamond?
I''ve talked to a guy at the store and he says that the inclusions are white, and near the girdle and cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Hi, BY:

You didn't mention what the price is, so we can't really comment on whether the price is good or not.

Part of what impacts price is the make of the diamond, and you haven't given the data that would help us determine what that is. You'd need the crown/pavilion angles on that.

Finally, what KIND of inclusions are they near the girdle? White is certainly better than dark, but if they are feathers that break the surface located near the girdle, that's a potential problem.

Can you get more data on the stone...price, crown/pav angles, what kind of inclusions are they?

Sorry about that... the price is $2657

Great........and the rest of the info?

Is it GIA/AGS cert?

What about crown and pavillion info?

Sorry, I'm having trouble finding the pav angles etc. Looking at the GIA report, there doesn't seem to be anything close to the edge of the girdle, mainly I see a couple marks designated as clouds whatever that means. Thats the best I can do.

No... not the best YOU can do, but the best of what GIA certs offer - for now. EGL and AGS certificates offer enough info to evaluate cut quality. AGS also grades cut on it's own system (so AGS0 is the best cut class according to this lab), and AGS certed stones are sold at a premium.

On the contrary, EGL certified stones are offered at a discount: it is said that their color and clarity grades are less 'strict' than GIA's and AGS's and EGL, while it does include crown and pavilion depth info, does not grade cut per se. It may be that EGL is less strict - but it is also a better bargain.

For example... THIS stone. By crown and pavilion height on the EGL cert, it gets a very high cut quality grade (1.2 HCA). SO, in my opinion, even if this is a less rpecise measurememnt, this stone would still be great even if a serious margin for error is allowed. 'Very Good' symetry is also an extra argument for this one... The depth could be a tad less, but it is no disaster as is. The piece looks like a great buy: a stone with great cut proportions but outside the 'ideal' range for which there would be a justified premium.
