Hi All, :wavey:

I'm trying to get a pair of earrings made using these diamonds.

They're .25 ct each August Vintage rounds. I want to be able to wear them next to a pair of .41 ct 'F's. Here's a pic GOG sent me of the 2 AV's next to a .40 ct Eighternity of the same diameter as my .41's. What do you think of the size difference? Do you think it's enpigh to look really nice? I have a pair of .34 ct studs that I don't like with the .41's because they're too close in size.

And the main question I have, does anyone know of a vendor they recomment that has 6 prong mounts to hold stone this small? They have to be pretty delicate prongs not to overpower the stones. This pair here, belonging to Purplesilk is what I'd like to find. If I can't find these I may go with another pair of 8 prong martinis, but that may be just too many prongs for tiny diamonds.

Can anyone help me out here? :wavey:

I would do minimal - 3prong martinis - to exaggerate the size diff btwn the two pairs

the 8prong settings will make the stones look bigger in your ears, which is not the effect I think you are going for

I thought of that and tried to convince myself to like 3 and 4 prongs, but I just don't. That and to me they wouldn't match well next to 8 prongers. I'm trying to find someone who can do me some delicate prongs to minimize the overall size.

ah, well in that case that won't do!

Yeah, I know. I'm just too picky in my old age.... :sigh:

I'm sure someone out there would be willing to polish down some prongs to make thes look good. I just got to find them. :errrr:

Hi Ande- I don't know if you have ever worked with Michael E at gemshoppe? (I've worked with him on more than a few occasions- especially on premade cast) I had him set my earrings in 8 prongs from Stuller and they are very minimal in metal showing imo. He's great to work with and you might find his price very enticing to work with him as well. I went with Medium friction backs and they are fantastic so far.

Here is a six prong I was thinking for your scrumptious stone:

actually, there are quite a few... check them out... ask michael what the cost would be. Look at the DWT weight, which should give you a sense of cost. Hope this helps.

I'm sure GOG can order 6-prong Stuller settings and do the setting in house.

As for the size differences, they will probably work for the look you want, although a tish smaller (which I know will be difficult in AVCs) would probably be better.

ahhh true....

For some reason I thought you already had them in your hands ::)

Purplesilk, do you know the size of the diamonds on that JbEG site?

How do I get in contact with him? I've never worked with him before.

Those 6 prong mounts show w lot of metal in the basket area, which is what I want to avoid. I thought the same thing looking at the James Allens, in part because the detail would likely be lost with the stones being only 4mm. Now if I was getting a carat each I'd be seriously considering that setting. The other problem with JA is they initially refused to set my dangly earrings because I got one of the stones elsewhere. In this case I'm getting them both from GOG.

Please keep the suggestions coming! :wavey:

Ande - Why don't you have GOG find you the settings? They have access to all the catalogs of findings that other jewelers do.

I purchased a diamond from them for my old e-ring; kept the ring, but it needed a new head for the slightly bigger diamond. They found several heads for me to choose from. Even sent pictures of them. I'm positive they can get a 6-prong earring setting for you.

I tried that, but they aren't having much luck. :o All they've been able to come up with is a set that looks much like the Stuller's except with even more metal over the pavilion of the stone. I wish they could find something, I'd much rather they set they there. I wonder if the person filling for marie just isn't looking in the right place.

o.k. Here is the Stuller 6-prong earring setting with the post already attached.

Then, I posted a thin wire 6-prong basket, but since the bottom is open, the jeweler would need to attach a post. I have a pair like this, and the post has to be at one side so it won't be centered. Just trying to figure out how little metal you are looking for.

Both settings come in many sizes, so there is one to fit your diamonds.

I'm looking for as little metal as possible, but want the post centered. I'd think GOG could find something and put a post on, but I wonder if they just weren't looking in the right place. I'm still looking for other options here. :wavey:
