I am looking at this diamond that did not come with a cert, the jewelry store had a sarin report done on it, let me know what you think about it:

Size: 2.15 Round (info told to me by jeweler)
Color: D
Clarity: SI3
Cost: $14,500

Info on report:
GIA VERY GOOD 2.15
diam. 8.48mm (8.46-8.51) [0.7%]
depth 4.96mm 58.5% EX
crown 32.5 12.2% EX, VG
pavil. 40.5 42.6% ID, ID
table 5.17mm 61.0% ID
culet 0.3% v. small ID
girdle 1.9% (1.4-2.6)%

it says nothing of polish and on the paper that wrapped the diamond said nothing next to flouresence. your opinions on price and overall info would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

I would ask for the stone to be sent to the GIA before agreeing to buy it. Why wouldn't it be worth the store's time and money to spend a little bit of $ to give their consumers assurance before plunking down $14k?

Since GIA and AGS don't have an SI3 clarity grade, we might assume it would get an I1 from them. D I1 stones with GIA certs of this size are going for about $5k a carat online, and D SI3 stones with EGL certs are going for less more often than more (and at least these stones have certs!). . . that does NOT calculate to $14,5k. And what if it's really an E, etc.?

However, if the stone does turn out to be as they say or better, the cut is pretty good (good combination of angles to create good light return with a big spread . . . the stone looks bigger than a 2.15 carat). But I would not simply take their word for the color and clarity.

May I ask, since most responses told you to avoid non-certed stones before, why are you still considering them? (Or, conversely, if you don't take our advice very seriously, why do you keep asking us about very similar stones? The responses will still be that if it seems too good to be true, it is.)

If you trust the grading, the price is not all that bad (sure yu have checked since Leonid made it quite easy

)... depending on what makes a significant difference to you.

SI3 should be a good looking I1 by definition. And those have to be seen to be believed.

GIA's "SI2" would be more pricey; "I1" a bit less but with no guarantee of clean looks before seeing some pictures or the stone itself. And one color grade down doesn't make allot of difference given the clarity range. So... why not.

Online, D-Si3 (EGL, of course) would be about 12k - with the savings requiring yet another diamond hunt started from scratch.

It remains entirely up to you to judge if the store's grading is believable.

I, personally, would not pay that much for an SI3 stone. I would get a better clarity, even if it means a smaller stone...

i don''t believe in SI 3 grade stones,if there is a SI 3 grade stone why not a VVS 3,why not a VS 3 ?
