The radiant stone below cost $4,000 and is for an engagement ring. Is this a good buy? I have read a lot of things on here that make SI2 sound less than desirable. Also, there is no cut grade, so I don't know how to tell if this is a good or great cut...I know it is not ideal...please help as I only have 2 weeks to exchange it.

Radiant?

Yes it is a radiant stone...forgot to mention that...

82.8% is really deep, even for a princess or radiant, which would make the stone look really really small for its carat weight. I''d keep looking.

My jaw dropped when I read the depth, but I don''t know much about fancy shapes. What would you replace it with? Another radiant or something else? An X-Factor from Whiteflash would be a good alternative to the radiant cut and you''d know the cut quality would be top notch. SI2''s are a case by case question. Is your stone eye clean?

The stone is eye clean...I didn''t see anything...I even checked with a loupe....of course with the loupe I saw minor inclusions. If I replaced it, I would look for another radiant that had a better clarity and a better depth percentage (based off of the comments I am receiving)...I am sure the price would go up a lot though. Is the price I paid a rip-off for the stone? The jeweler said the diamond was appraised (by an outside appraiser) for $9,000.

A better cut stone is well worth it. When a diamond is well cut, it will sparkle a lot. Most ladies would much prefer a smaller well cut (well, not too small

) over a larger dead looking/glassy diamond.

with that depth

you basically paid the cost of a 1ct. stone (which is around 3-4k NOT anywhere close to 9k) for a stone that is about the size of a .75ct. (which would cost 2-3k).

It''s very very keep and facing up like a much smaller stone than it''s carat weight. I probably would return this stone and look for one that is better cut. Depth should be in the 60-65% range.

Up to 69% is still acceptable, but 82% is way too heavy
