I found my diamond, a .87 F VS1 princess. Now the mission begins to find the setting. I saw a setting that I really liked at a local jewlery store, but like most b&m''s, I think it is way overpriced. It was a very thin and dainty band, approximately 2 mm in width. It had small rounds set in the band all the way around, giving the illusion that the band was one long diamond. The total carat weight on the ring was .43. I wanted to know if I could get small princesses set on the ring instead of rounds. Also, on the shank (I''m not sure what the top peice that holds the diamond is called, each side had 3 small diamonds going through the middle on a strip of metal. I made a really rough sketh and will atttach it. I want to know if anyone out there can please help me find someone who makes this ring.

Hi - I have seen similar at several on-line stores - but none with the diamonds across the setting. Can you go back to the store and make some more inquiries, as to maker, if it was custom, etc.? Also, most jewelers have a buffer range built into their pricing so you can try to negotiate a better price. It's not haggling in the medina, mind you, but it is not improper form to do so.

SOme of these internet sites can customize the setting for you:

www.whiteflash.com
www.sndgems.com
www.dimendscaasi.com
are three of my favs. with similar settings available.
I'm going to have some new sites I like so no one thinks I work for them! You could also try some online antique sites like:

www.antiquejewelrymall.com (good experience with them)
www.faycullen.com
browse around. GOod luck!

Just my opinion after looking at dozens of settings in person lately.. but small princesses set in the band (either channel or pave') never look as sparkly or as fiery as small rounds set in the band. Even though you might be trying to match the main stone, and keep them all princesses, I would say that small rounds would look better than small princesses, even if they don't match as well because princesses that small in the band tend to look glassy.

Hi Aureliano. The shank is the band actually. The part of the ring that holds the stone is the head.

Is this sort of what you are looking for? It also comes without the diamonds on the prongs (prongs are the four bars that hold up the diamond).

I found it on Pearlmans Jewelers webside:
http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/Product.asp?DesignerID=37&ItemTypeID=1&ItemID=2222&start=12

Not the cheapest place to get it but they have a few different styles of this in their own collection. This one without the pave prongs is $2200. I am sure since it's a four prong they can make it for a princess stone too.

Hope this helps you.

The setting looks very similar to the one that I saw, except the head. Do you think the jeweler will let me take a picuture of it? Can they tell me who the designer is? I do remember themt telling me that it was not one of their own designs and that if I tell them the dimensions of my diamond, they would be able to order a setting to best fit it. Do you guys think I can find this setting for less than 1000? I dont think the small diamonds should cost that much and the metal I think I want is 18k white gold.

Was this it? Although you can't see the bridge it does have the diamond bridge below the diamond. It is by Ritani.

I doubt... The price on this depends on the manufacturing cost, not the materials. I would actually start to worry if someone would offer this one fro $500 or so.

As about setting prncess cuts on the model - I also doubt it is feasible. Thos stones would have stright edges while the setting where they should fit is courved. Having small rouds set solve this problem.

There are quite a few models quite close to the one you describe - but without diamonds set on the 'head'. This detail limits the options to custom made and designer settings. Otherwise, it is rather easy to fit a square 'head' for the princess on a pave semi mount. Not sure the sum total look is juts the same though.

Here's one (LINK) you may find interesting. It is listed as a set, but I am not all that sure one can't get just the ring.

Hope this helps...

The one by ritani....what are those holes on the inside of the band? What website can I go to to see it? I agree about the princess side stones...I'm gonna stick with rounds. Thank you guys for your help, but don't stop- keep that info coming

Er... I think those are suposed to be 'understood' as a mark of careful craftmanship

(called 'ajours'). Not sure what their role is otherwise. Whatever...

Ritany resides at (www.ritani.com)

and a similar setting is made by precisionset (www.precisionset.com).

I got that picture from theknot.com. Most sites don't have it yet because it is a relatively new design by Ritani. I believe possibly a bit over a month or two. But Ritani only has certain dealers that carry their line. A good way to tell if that is indeed the ring you saw would be to go to the Ritani site and look at the Store Locator to see if the store you had seen the ring in is indeed a Ritani design.
Let me know if you need other information. This is the setting that I am getting shortly but with a Round.

Hi,
Regarding your question on the holes, they are called azures, I believe, and they're actually made to allow access to light and cleaning. They're usual to pave and other similar grain settings. (this is from one of my reference books for silversmithing class, 'Jewellery making manual' by sylvia wicks).
Good luck in your search!

I found out who makes this ring....the company is called ADI. Not sure what the A stands for (maybe allan or adam) David Imports. Has anyone heard of them before? Do they have a web site?

Actually, ADI stands for Angeles Diamonds International. They are a manufacturer based in Los Angeles. I just talked to them over the phone and they do not deal directly with the public

At least I found the ring, here is a pic. The retail price was 1120 if I'm not mistaken, but the first time I called they said it was really less, that there was some formula. So now I am trying to find someone who carries it or that can recreate it. Any help here guys and gals?
