I'm looking for some expert help and info on this stone.
Round Brilliant Stone
3.12 Carats
E color
SI1 clarity
9.49 x 9.45 x 5.76
GIA certificate
Ex Polish
Ex Symmetry
No Flourescence
Megascope report:
Crown Angle 34.3
Crown Height 14.7%
Pavil Angle 40.7
Pavil Depth 42.9%
Culet 0.5%
Table size 56.6%
Total Depth 60.5
Girdle Thickness 1.3 - 1.8 Medium
Proportion Ideal

I was told by a VERY reputable appraiser that has the stone,
it is VERY clean and is more like a VS2 than an SI1.

Price is $35K.
How is the quality of the stone and is the price right?
Can anyone run a brilliantscope and light leakage numbers/charts from the above info?
Any comps out there also?
Thanks

Your stone scores a 0.9 on the HCA -- excellent white light return, excellent fire, excellent scintillation, and very good spread: Tolkowsky Ideal Cut.

The price also seems good. I found two GIA stones that don't even have the angles for comparison that are around the same price, but they do not have excellent symmetry or polish, and one has slight flourescence and a bigger variation in the girdle, as well as being an AGS 1, not an AGS 0. Plus they are both slightly smaller than your stone. That leads me to think that the price of your stone is very good.

Diamond One

Diamond Two

Not sure what the AGS pedigree (0 or 1) and the Ex-Ex polish and symmetry do: I do not expect any visual impact from them. The combination of grades and top cut quality does not leave much room for improvement here

This is one great stone which escaped the price trap of high white-high clarity combination... Good for you!

As you say, this stone has to be seen to be believed, and the HCA's prediction confirmed by the stone in person. However, the Brilliance Scope test cannot be run "on numbers" - it is done on the stone itself. Same for the IdealScope and H&A viewer tests. If one would run symulation of these actual tests based on the numbers you have (using a software called DiamCalc) no extra information will be added to the HCA anyway - just a visualization of the stone. The details on minor facets - not at all unimportant for the overall optics of the stone - are not in the numbers you have, and cannot be reconstituted.

I understand from your posts that the stone has already visited an appraiser? If so, he could probably also comment on the overall apperaence. I would at least ask for an IdealScope image of this stone to confirm the prediction of light return of the HCA.

Should I pull the trigger on this puppy or what?
According to someone's response it scores a .9 on the HCA. I have read somewhere on PS that a score like that may
be too low and the fire/brilliance/scintilization will not show properly. The stone will be too white? Is this true?
Will this stone have great fire and brilliance?

Actually, 0.9 is a very good score. The pros have frequently commented they like the look of stones that score between 0.5 (or so) and 1.5 (or so). Once the score starts to drop below 0.5, or go about 1.5, diamonds tend to loose contrast.

A GIA Ex/Ex is comparable to AGS Id/Id. The table, depth, and other specs meet AGS criteria. That is why PG was comparing your stone in AGS vernacular.

The price sounds more than fair. Great HCA score. This diamond should be a great performer!

By the numbers, this stone should be absolutely stunning.....STUNNING!

Now all you have to do is verify that with your own eyes (or a trained set--the independent appraiser), and you're good to go. Lovely choice!

Yes, you should go for it.....make sure your return policy is reasonable, and you're out of the woods!

Return policy is 10 days, I believe..
Should this stone be set in a 4 prong setting or 6 prong platinum setting?
Looking to add some pricess cuts on the sides in a channel setting, about .80cts total on both side.
Will this take away from the center stone or what?

I just meant that if his stone looked better on paper than these others stones, and was cheaper, then it was probably a good deal! Just trying to compare as many factors as possible.

No, 0.9 is not too low. The lower, the better. Different scores may mean different types of light return (i.e. fire vs. brilliance), but the point is, your stone is sparkly!

I don't think side stones would detract from the center stone since they will not seem very big in comparison.

Also, four prongs (of platinum) are very secure, and in my opinion, look better than six prongs. Six prongs seem to have a "busy" look.

Of course, if six will give you more peace of mind, your stone is so large that it couldn't be overshadowed by two more prongs.

I personally prefer 6-prong, especially in a stone of this size. Won't detract at all due to size of diamond, and very classic.

6 prong does sound better than 4 prong for this size diamond. The smallish princess,.... I can't visualize it. Trapezoids, baguettes, trailing sized rounds,... I can see those. But not small princess cuts. Should be unique!

On paper, this stone is a winner all the way around. If it blows your mind, then, yes, pull the trigger.

But, ewwwwwww - princess side stones. Perhaps some very simple baguettes or pears, but I would set this puppy w/ a simple, elegant 4 prong setting.

4 or 6 prong is a personal preference. I prefer 6 because I like how it shows of the roundness of the stone. It does cover more of hte stone from the side, so it really depends on what you like. Both are safe.

It sounds like a stunning stone! Pull the trigger, have it appraised, and enjoy!

I guess you bought this stone seeing as how there was a post from your "wife" in this thread about how much she liked her 3.12 carat ring...

However, what's interesting to me is that later in that same thread, when you were asked what the specs of the stone you bought were, you said that it was a D color, VVS1 clarity. Remember? Look here 5th post down...

So I'd like to know why you lied about what stone you got? Are you that insecure that you need to lie about getting a D VVS1 when you really got an E/SI1? And are you that stupid that you didn't think that someone would find this post from last week and call you on it?

Did you lie to your wife too? Because she says in the thread I linked to that "it's the best money can buy" which obviously being an SI1 it is not, so we can only assume that you lied and told her that it was a D VVS1 as well.

Why did you lie?

Scammed, let it go, this guy is "at the gym" and I suggest we leave him there. Please? Although it's somewhat entertaining, it's also annoying to hear stuff not related to diamonds debated on this forum...

So many different people in this world that you are bound to disagree with, it's best to leave most of them to their own devices...

The stone has some of the best numbers you'll find in an ideal cut. However it is impossible to assess the seperate components of brilliance, fire & scintillation since a knowledge of minor facet cutting, optical symmetry & variances are required. Ie. Cutting short lower girdles (even on a diamond of these proportions) can decrease scintillation dramatically while cutting them longer can dramatically increase it. Couple it with longer stars and that's even better.

It depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. It would be safe to say however that the diamond will have excellent reflective/refractive properties.

I agree Nicrez,

Just exposing a liar for what he is that's all.

Hi Nicrez and Scammedinnyc.I did put that thread out there it's true but the stone I bought for my wife is a 3.21 D VVs stone. She did make a mistake because of so much talk about various stones that she got her numbers confused. Are you going to pick on my wife for a legitimate mistake? Say what you want about me but let's leave the wives out of it.
But anyway I do need the help of some people on PS.
After my wife did some reading online about stones she found some info on 8* star stones. Does anyone know about them and where they can be purchased? She wants me to trade back the 3.21 and get a 4 carat 8* because of all you wonderful people last night saying her stone was junk.
So thanks a lot to all of you who conversed with me last night.

Hell, why stop at 4 carats? If you insist on only the best, this eightstar should be right up your alley:

American Star

LOL Vette

Thanks for continuing to step in it. You're the only one here that fails to realize what an imbecile you continue to make yourself look like.

Hey guys/gals it was fun playing in the sandbox with 2005corvette but lets leave it to that thread and get on with talking about diamonds.

8* are sold in b&m's you likely wont find one on the net for the closest local dealer hit their website and contact them.

Scammed ......you've been asked before to take this petty fighting to PM if you must engage in it at all.

This forum is not here for the purpose of sniping someone you don't like. Please take it offline.

Hey scammedinnyc you are the poster boy for using birth control. You can't let things rest you have to start up again! Well I can take it as far as you want to and then some. Is it so childish and important to you that you have the last word? Fine go ahead and show everyone what you are and get the last word in. I'll yield to you. If it's an ego thing go ahead and have the last word, I wouldn't want to disappoint you!

Then why are you egging him on? If he doesn't answer, then YOU have the last word. Congratulations. You are such a winner.

Honestly, stop. You can't make friends with people you try so hard to impress, and you aren't making friends on this site discussing non-diamond issues. We don't care what you own, or what you do with your time, unless it has to do with diamonds, and if you DO own them, post pictures, or don't talk about them!

If you aren't here to talk about diamonds, or make friends, why are you posting?! Enough!

Tell your wife to try 8*, they have them in all sizes. I wish you luck.
