I love this one. How much stock in HCA score?

I'm learning and not posting the link since I cannot reserve it at this particular website:)

I am having a lot of fun with this hunt!! I came across this one on a Chicago wholesaler site around $11,600. GIA Cert

Round 1.41 Carat. H Color VVS2, Excellent Cut.
The plot shows a few pinpoints on the table and on the underside. ' Additional pinpoints not shown. Surface graining is not shown.'
Medium to Slightly Thick girdle. (faceted)
VG Polish. Excellent symmetry. medium blue florescence.

I ran it through HCA and got this.

Selected: 61.5% depth, 59% table, 35° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle
The result is for a symmetrical diamond with a medium girdle and very good polish
HCA scores were adjusted Dec. 15, 2001 and Feb. 6, 2003.

Factor Grade
Light Return Very Good
Fire Very Good
Scintillation Very Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 2.8 - Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right

I read the article on HCA and it talks about 41 degree pavilion angle being very beautiful and not to put too much emphasis on the HCA score. I requested an Idealscope image which I hope he can produce for me. I will have to double check the eye-clean-ness but it is VVS2 so I'm not too worried.

Any initial feedback?

I think if you can get an idealscope image, since it is under 3 it might be worth a look. What's the spread (dimensions). I wouldn't buy it without an idealscope image or if I did I'd take it to get appraised right away at a please that has an idealscope.

Here are is one that is similar but larger, AND that you can get an idealscope image for:

https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca 1.5 carat 2.4 on the HCA GIa Ex/Ex looks likely to be eyeclean 11,377 7.4mm spread.

No need to worry with a 2.8 HCA. But don't fall in love with diamonds that you don't know so much about.

HCA said the spread was very good. How do I find the spread from the GIA cert?
Also, your link leads back to the tool. Was it supposed to lead to a diamond I could see?

How do you mean? I can see the picture of it and the GIA certificate and the attributes of the diamond. Outside of the idealscope image (which I am learning about), and the HCA score, the 4 C's, am I missing something big that I should be worried about before getting excited? I guess love was overstated. :)

I just assumed you would have shared a picture with us if one was available. Can't wait for you to get the IS.

haha, gotcha. It's in one of those java windows where I can't right click and save. Maybe I will try to take a screen capture.

The diameter and spread mean the same thing. Always look at diameter measurements because in stones that are too deep or have a thick girdle, the diameter can suffer. Therefore, you end up with a diamond that looks like one with a smaller weight.

You don't have to ask about eyeclean with diamonds graded VS1 or higher. So no worries about VVS2.

7.1 to 7.4mm with the 1.5 carat above is a big visual difference in these sizes. I'd favor the JA stone personally. That's a lot of diamond for the same money.

SORRY! JUST NOTICED I LINKED YOU WRONG BEFORE> Off to find that diamond for you. PUT IT ON HOLD immediately even if you don't know you want it though, once i link it .

Here it is. I'd take this one over the 1.4 carat: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1508858.asp OKAY-- spread is 7.3 (my bad, I'm losing it today!) but still. More piece of mind. GREAT return policy.

"Graining not shown" might need to be looked at in person, from various tilts and angles to see how visible or invisible is is in real life. Graining can have color, like brown or gray, so also make sure that it's not tinted grain lines.

Gypsy, thank you! I asked that it be put on hold. I think I need to get over my fear that an S1 can be eye clean. When I look at the image, it appears that anyone would notice the inclusions. Its difficult to separate logic from a 10x zoomed image.

I will be back with a couple of images, I hope.

I think that is like 40x, not 10. 10x might be that little one at the bottom of the page.

YEAH. the JA is a 40X magnification.

That stone is 7.3mm in real life. So... those are truly microscopic inclusions. JA has a great return policy too. Personally I'd get the JA stone, if you aren't happy with it then move to higher clarity. But why pay more for something you can't see.

If you want to get over your fear of SI stones, do what I did. Go to a Hearts on Fire Dealer local to you, call ahead for an appointment and ask for H and I colored SI1 clarity stones. Then go and see in real life. You will be shocked. I promise .

Okay here are the idealscope images. I don't want emotion to get the best of me. CAn I find better diamonds around 1.5 carats between 11,000 and 12,000 or are either of these great choices? Per the gemologist at JA, Diamond 1508858's (1.50crt H SI1) inclusions blend well and the diamond should face eye clean to the average eye. It has great light performance and a true "H" color.

This is the one gypsy recommended

Here is an image of the one I had

and the cert

They are both gorgeous, the 1.5 has a bit better IS. I would personally choose an SI1 over a VVS2.

Thank you, Julie. I'm worried that I could find a better forever stone in this price range. Should I keep looking or am I going to impress with the 1.51? Sparkle Without sacrificing size?

I'd take performance over clarity. The one with the better idealscope image wins. Plus they have a fabulous return policy. If it comes to it, you can always go up in clarity if this one doesn't work out for you.

Thanks Gypsy and all. I am going to call James Allen tomorrow and discuss the purchase of the 1.51. Thanks alot for everyone's feedback.

I think the one Gypsy picked out will be absolutely absolutely amazing.

Congratulations! I hope you are WILDLY happy with it! Please post pics when you get it!

I'm sure it will be stunning! Gypsy certainly knows her stuff! Don't forget to post pics when you receive the ring. Congratulations!! :appl:
