Ugh! This really sucks, and hearing it sucked! Luckily we''ve been living on less than 1 income for years, so there won''t be any financial troubles as a result of this.

I got royally screwed on my annual review last year (long story, don''t want to get into it here, but I''ll say that passive aggressive boses are a NIGHTMARE), and with the harsh economic times, and whatnot my firm decided to terminate me. Now I''m even more bitter than before!

I think this is a blessing in disguise though. I''ve contemplated leaving for a long time, and everytime I put it off, for fear of change, but now I have to make a change. And I hope it really does work out for the best!

Oh man - blessing in disguise, for sure!

Does that mean you get to collect unemployment? That would be sweet. You could re-group and figure out what you want to do next, all in your own time.

Don't worry - sounds like you will be ok.

I''m so sorry to hear that Brooklyngirl. I am hoping that it IS actually a blessing in disguise. Best of luck.

Ditto. You know us PS''ers are always here to listen and offer DUST and support!

Thanks Jelly and Starryeyed!

I absolutely get to collect unemployment. But I have 6 weeks severence pay, and I''m employed with full salary and benefits until January 5th. Then I''m getting my 4 weeks unused vacation payed out at full salary, so all in all I have 3 months from today before I can even think about applying for unemployment. Hopefully I won''t need to do that, but with the economy being what it is, it might come to that

That stinks. I pray you find it to be a blessing in disquise and find a great position soon. I can''t stand passive aggressive behaviour. Best of luck, things always seem to work themselves out. Ya know one door closes, one door opens. Could be something amazing is right down the road for you. Let''s hope so,

Sweet! It''s a total blessing, are you kidding? Plenty of time to re-examine, re-invent, re-energize, and find something you truly love!

Thanks Kaleigh, DF, and AG! I suppose the new year will start of with a clean slate -- new marriage, new job(hopefully), and new life. As miserable as I''ve been at this job for several years, I''ve made some great friends here (who''ve all made me feel much better today, as soon as they heard the news). That''s a lot coming from me, as I don''t make friends easily. Even though they''re on the east coast, I think we''ll keep in touch for a long time

It''s funny how well people bond when they''re all miserable

I''m so sorry BG. But at least you have some time to work things out. Lots of dust your way!

Sorry to her this BG. Kudos to you for living within your means on one salary so this wasn''t too scary a blow financially. Sending lots of job dust your way!

Ugghh - that really sucks, but hopefully it will turn out to be a good thing. It seems like you have the right attitude, so I hope everything works out well for you! My company just let a LOT of people go today and I feel just sick about - I feel awful for the people who were let go, and I feel guilty that I still have my job, and I feel afraid that I could be the next to go.

I''m sorry, BG, but you''ve been living wisely, so you''re able to find a great job. No, it''s not fun, but this could be a good thing. And 3 months of salary still? That''s great.

*Dust* for you, in the hopes that you''ll find a great job soon.

So sorry to hear, BG. I hate hearing about this happening to so many people now. But it sounds like you''ve put yourself in a great situation to figure out your next step and a happier job!

That really stinks Brooklyngirl...I''m really sorry to hear it.

Times are rough for so many people right now, but it will get better. Just know we''re here for you.

((HUGS))

Aw I am sorry...but hopefully it means that there is something better for you around the corner!

I am sorry, that really sucks..but I am glad you''re going to be able to potentially move on to something better. Send tons of PS dust your way, keep us updated!

Good luck on your search.

I am so sorry, but like you said this really might be a blessing. Don''t look backwards.
And I have to tell you, your dress is gorgeous. I loved every detail of it.

One door closes another opens :), I would definitely look this as what you needed to make a better change :)

I was laid off from a job I had had for years back in the summer. I was royally pissed at the time being that they didn''t look at performance to make decisions- they looked at who made the least and kept those. About a week after I got laid off, I realized I was actually really glad it happened. I wasn''t happy about being unemployed, but the job I had loved for so very long had become a nightmare in the last six months. I had already been talking about leaving and then they had to pay me to go away. The more I hear about how crazy it is at my old job, the happier I am that I''m not there.

There are jobs in this economy- it''s finding the postings that are hard (at least in my field). Make sure anyone that you think has good connections knows you are looking. If they can get your resume directly to the hiring manager instead of the recruiter, even better! That''s the reason I''ve had contract work that last six months and it''s the reason I''m headed to the final interview for a permanent job here in an hour or so.

Brooklyn Girl:

While it is a tough moment I am sure that things will likely turn out for the best long term.

I''ve been laid off several times - and even outright fired once. Be very glad you got separation benifits. That is something I never had.

May I suggest that this is a good time to re-evaluate what you really want to do. A good book for finding a new carear and job is "What Color is your Parachute" - and it has a great exercise on figuring out what you want to do in the back. It took me a couple of months to really work through it - but once I did there were a lot more good posibilities for me than I had realized. I note that others often work through that exercise in a few weeks - only the really stubborn like I was take months to get through it.

I wish you a great future...

Perry

I''m really sorry to hear that. Sending hugs.

I''m sorry to hear that but I have to agree that you have a great attitude about it. Many positive thoughts are coming your way that you find a new job quickly!

Brooklyn - that stinks, but I"m glad you are seeing positively. You''ll find what''s perfect for you. You shouldn''t have to be unhappy in the work place.

Sorry you lost your job BrooklynGirl. You have a great attitude, and I have no doubt you''ll find something you love soon! Sending you job dust!
