It''s overdue, but I wanted to make sure I was ready for the price and I found a 50" Panasonic Plasma HDTV for $2200 at Tweeter.com, so it''s on the way.

I''m happy to be following through with my plans, but at the same time I''m nervous! Why? It''s not like this changes anything... we are already engaged!!! Maybe this is what they go through? Or maybe it''s just the price? Probably. I can''t wait to have it on our living room wall and get rid of the monster that''s taking up half the floor space!

Wow! And all my DH got was a card

Mine didn''t even get a card! All he got was a "Yes, you ARE lucky to be marrying me!". Actually he told me that if I got him something, he''d be pissed.

He is like, "This was MY thing to do for YOU. Don''t ruin it be reciprocating." Oh-kay.

Ha, well, best not to tell him about the tv trend then! There are a few of us on PS that have been discussing the "engagement tv" idea, but I don''t know if anybody else has done it yet or not. We''d been planning to get one, but then I decided that it would be my gift to him after we got engaged. He spent $7500 on my ring, so at $2200, I got off easy, but it''s not like it will be around as long as my ring! And I get to use it too! Plus, once we have it on the wall, we have room for a low-slung credenza to hold all the new china! Double bonus!

Lucky!

Mine loves presents! I can''t imagine him ever saying anything like that! He was actually a little nervous that our wedding date will be too close to his birthday (11 days) and he''ll miss out on presents. I assured him that wouldn''t be an issue!

Sum, funny you should mention the birthday thing- mine is two days after the wedding. And at my annual family-thrown party this year, they said, so... what do you want for your party next year? WAIT! You''ll be getting married, so nevermind!!

Man!

Now, if my fiance heard about the tv thing, he may change his mind, so sssshhh..

How exciting! We''re going to get ours after the next round of models come out. Their upgrading something with the HDMI inputs and we''re just going to get the kind that''s out now, so hopefully it''ll drop in price. That sounds like a really good deal. We were looking at 55" projection ones and they were like $3k and up.

Ahh yes... the engagement TV. Be sure to take a pic of him with his "bling"!!!

DH (then FI) with his "bling" several days after I got the ring. He wanted a TV SOOOOO bad and I told him I would be very disappointed if he got one before I got a ring. So we made a deal, when I got the ring, I would get him a TV for his e-present. Boy did that light a fire under his a$$!!!

And I agree with you... we did get off easy!

Oh, NJC, that pic is PRICELESS!!! I laughed HARD when I saw it!!! I''ll definitely have to take one of those!!!

Oooh, that''s the brand we''re looking at!

njc, too funny!

I think presents for me is a nice thing to do, so congrats sumbride! They just get so excited, don''t they? Makes the engagement fun for them too. I got off easy for sure...just got my man some nice clubs, woods, etc for $1500. Good thing he doesn''t like bling! He was so delighted, and said he had never heard of men getting e-presents before. I''d better keep him off PS!

YAY!! Your FI will be thrilled I'll bet!

I wanted to give J his XBOX 360. Most of you know what happened... He didn't want me to spend money on him because I'm a student, and he bought it himself without telling me! I was really pissed off...

He finally agreed to let me pay for the ring setting with the money I'd put aside for the XBOX.

Thanks guys.

Sumbride - cant wait to see your FI!!! Make sure he gives you a big cheesey smile!!!

When is it going to be delivered?

Robbie - Samsung is one of the best for rear projection. Texas Instraments and Samsung developed the DLP technology. Our is 50" and i LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! And thats a lot coming from the girl who could have cared less about what her Food Channel was played on. Football games... WHOA!!!

The tv is being delivered Friday!!! WOO HOO!!!!

Now we have to figure out what else we need to hook it up. His friend says we need some $400 surge protector. That sounds ridiculous so I must do some research.

yikes! That does sound ridiculous!

Yay! I know you''d been reviewing the best deal on this for a while. I''m glad you made the purchase!!

So how is the new TV?!

Alas... it''s still in the box on the floor!!! It arrived on Friday but we haven''t put it up on the wall yet and he won''t let me get it out for fear the cats will "ruin it". We did inspect it, but he made me put the lid back on! He ordered the fancy schmancy surge protector, which arrived today, and we bought the mount, but he needs to get his friends over here to help us. We''re mounting it to an exposed brick wall, so we want to mount studs to that first and mount the tv to the studs instead of directly to the brick. I bought the studs. He painted them to match the brick. but it''s all sitting in the middle of the living room and we''re having a party on Saturday so it BETTER happen tonight!!!

And in the meantime I''m going through Tivo withdrawal because it isn''t hooked up right now.

hopefully I''ll be replying soon with "It''s great!" And a pic of him beaming. Working on it!

njc- that pic of your DH is priceliess

Sum-you are a sweetie. Enjoy the new TV!

Argh! His friend is busy tonight. Of course.

At this point I''m feeling like I should go outside and ask my neighbors to help if I wasn''t worried about them stealing our stuff.

Here it is! The cords are just everywhere, but we''re working on a solution for that... FI wouldn''t agree to a "Bling Shot" as much as I begged. But here''s his new baby. I was only watching Wheel becaue of the pretty HD colors!

WOW! It looks like a piece of art. Too cool.

It looks great! Let me know what you do with the cords. Our living room is a mess w/ cords from our surround sound speakers. It looks so awful, but I really have no idea of how to fix it. We can''t even find anything for a reasonable price with wireless speakers

We''re thinking about cutting into the wall below the ledge and putting shelving in there. It''s a hollow wall over brick, so it should be easy enough. Then we can route the cords down through a small hole in the ledge to the cabinet and paint them to match the brick. We don''t have surround sound yet but I told FI if we get it, the rear speakers HAVE to be wireless. It is really expensive though!

Looks great Sumbride! Thanks for posting pics!

Do you know if you can add wireless speakers onto an existing system?

Sure you can. The wireless speakers have a transmitter and you''d plug that into the slots for the rear speaker wires. I don''t think I''d get an all wireless system because you''d probably have quite a bit of interference, but rear speakers can be wireless, and really, that''s all you''d need. Just make sure that your speakers have a frequency that''s different from your portable phone and your wireless network, if you have one.
