I & J color stones

Hi guys.

I''m considering lowering my color grade requirements in order to put me into 1 carat stone. I just wanted some opinions as to what I''d be getting. It seems like a lot of people feel they still face up white. Is that the expert consensous around here?

The stone I''m looking at is at Good Old Gold, so I know the cut is fantastic. As a matter of fact, it is triple VH on the brilliance scope and has a 9.7 ISee2 score.

Oww, that looks like a nice diamond. Ask Jonathan if it's eye clean or if any of the feathers break the girdle and pose a durability risk.

Jonathan got in some really nice 1+ ct ,most of them with super specs 34.4 crown,40.8 pavil angles,look at the 1.07 h vvs1

,wish i need a 1 ct now.

Thanks folks. It sounds like you guys approve even though it is "I" color. Anyone think "I" color is too far up to go. I'm not looking at the investment, I just want to make sure it doesn't look yellow.

I will ask Jonathan about the feathers in it. I already talked to one of his associates about it being eye clean. They say it is.

BTW...the ISee2 score is supposed to be a test of a diamond in diffuse lighting.

Hi Wonka-

I've been to GOG and had the distinct pleasure of looking at many of their stones in person. I'm extremely sensitive to color, and was quite impressed with how white their I color stones face up. Certainly, this seems like a beautiful stone, and should look very white. Ultimately though, only you can answer the question. It will really depend on whether you like the color or even whether you can see it. Also, from the side, the stone will show more color, so you may want to take that into consideration when selecting a setting. If you have a jeweler that carries ideal cut stones, you might want to have a look and compare colors, just to see what you prefer, but unless you're a total color freak like me, I suspect you'll be very happy with this choice.

In my experience, many consumers cannot tell the difference between a true "H" and a "J", even side-by-side, let alone by itself. Just remember that the people that frequent this forum tend to be highly educated, and well-versed in diamonds, so they obviously will be more sensitive. If you and your gf are, then you would want to take that into consideration.

However... I would encourage you to go to an appraiser that has identically cut stones all lined up for grading purposes, but ask him to mix them all up in a pile, and then have you sort them by color. My appaiser did this yesterday, and I got everything K and below and E and up, but couldn't tell the difference between a G and an J. Just some 2c since I just did that yesterday.

My philosophy tends to be put the money into the cut vs. the color, and then only spend what you need to to be very happy with your purchase. This will vary for all of us, so good luck!

You know, that is what I really need to do. I've looked at diamonds before, but never really paid close detail to what the color actually looked like. The reality is, when I've seen an awesome diamond, the color didn't matter.

I think I need to go out and just look at some at a local jeweler or appraiser.

Like your comments about not being able to tell the difference between and g and j, especially since I just purchased an Ideal H&A "J". Our decision to go "J" was because we had a budget of $5000 or below for a diamond and decided to forsake color for a great cut and larger diamond. It arrives tomorrow!
