I hate Helzberg, but she likes their ring. More Issues with Helzberg

I called up Helzberg today because she really wants their ring with a setting I can't find elsewhere. I am far away from the store where the actual ring is. I called them up to ask them to fax me a copy of the certification. They refused. The store manager claimed they were not allowed because of the cert # on the paperwork. I said fine, black out the number and send it to me...I'm not going to spend $5600 on the phone without looking over the paperwork again. She refused again.

I asked who certified it. Store manager said IGI. This does not bode well with me for 2 reasons.

1. Other stores I'm working with have gladly emailed or faxed me the cert. paperwork.
2. From my research IGI is not as good as GIA because IGI is more lenient.


So my questions.

1. Am I correct is looking for a GIA certification over an IGI?
2. Am I correct in thinking this is a bad business practice to refuse to send me the cert., even with a blacked out number?


I am immensely fed up with them and this whole process. My GF is sort of being a brat in liking only that one ring out of the millions that are available.

I seriously would think twice about working with them. I just don't like to make a habit of rewarding business with terrible customer service

I would agree that I will take a GIA cert over IGI. I don't recall seing cut information on IGI its been a while since I"ve seen their certs

I would be interested in the angles and specific numbers to accomodate the stone to evaluate and make an informed decision

Also- Have you asked your GF to browse through the eye candy folder there are a ton of rings to look at. The ring that you have pictured on your other thread, I would think a PS vendor could create one with more beautiful sidestones as well. It doesn't hurt to ask. You're not losing much but You will gain much more in terms of quality and price I believe

1) For my own reference, I will go for AGS or GIA
2) It is kind fishy for the owner''s claim about "not allowed because of the cert #". I would stay away from this store.

Yes, that''s the one. One more question. I like the Tiffany Legacy, but not the Tiffany price. Where is a good place to get a good replica pretty quickly? I checked Excel diamonds. Is that the best replica? Their estimate is 2 weeks to get.

any PS vendors here could get you a replica made, but seeing as it is a busy season with christmas around the corner, two weeks sounds pretty reasonable

Excel is pretty well known as making excellent Tiffany replicas. But any vendor with a good reputation should be able to do what you need- a stock setting would *probably* be faster than custom, but not necessarily- quite often even stock pieces are customized for your GF's finger size, stone size that's gonna be put in it, etc; you don't really want a new setting that you ordered to need resizing, it will be created new to fit finger and diamond usually. Two weeks is pretty darn quick IMO. 4-6 weeks is what I've run into with jewelers a lot.

Here are two settings from whiteflash that would be better quality gold and would still allow you plenty budget to get a .75 cushion to be VERY similar to the helzberg ring with better quality.
