Oh man. I am having a tough month.

My 3 carat is in to switch the settings because the old one was not safe. My original engagement ring (RHR), the OEC is not. I noticed that the diamond was a little loose about a week ago but didn't bring it in because I was going to do it when I picked up my other ring- this friday. I have not been wearing it either.

TONIGHT, I was going to clean my rings/ jewelry (and loupe them because I love looking at them) and I dropped it on the bathroom floor and it bounced then skid. My 2 prongs bent, and I THINK MY DIAMOND CHIPPED!!! I feel like I'm having a diamond heart attack right now ;( ;( ;(

I should bring it in right? What do I do?? Any jewelry store or a certain person? OH GOD I'm going to have a melt down. Wedding is in 19 days or so.

I louped it. I think the girdle chipped. It WAS a frosted girdle and now a section looks smooth and.. I don't know to describe it

Are you talking about what looks like an indentation at 2 o'clock in the photo?

I hope that's just an optical illusion, perhaps it was an inclusion that was previously set under a prong and it just rotated so you can see it now? Perhaps it can be hidden again?!

Hope everything works out!

Bean, so sorry to hear this....I don't have much to offer in terms of advice on what jeweler to call etc but I am so sorry you are having a rough month. The only thing I can say is to wait until Friday when you pick up your new GORGEOUS engagement ring (you know that rock of yours is going to shine in its new home!). This way you will be filled with delight by seeing the new ring and can discuss the issues with the RHR. Or did you want to wear the RHR for the wedding, so the earlier you get it to a jeweler might be best? Hang in there and deep breath, try to put a perspective on it...at least you will have your e-ring in time for the wedding and it will be beautiful!

No, what it reminds me of is when you cut cheese or something with a knife and instead of it being completely smooth there are like "drag" marks on it? That is the best I can explain. That was a picture from my camera phone (and I'm wearing a green shirt so the diamond looks green lol) but the chip or "swipe" is part of the lower girdle, so from head on you can't see the damage.

I did want to wear this at the wedding... but maybe not now! If I can take it into any jeweler I think I'll do that tomorrow. Now the diamond is so loose it "spins" in the prongs. :(sad

Thank you for the words of encouragement! I had a minor 10 minute cry and am going to try to think positively.

I'm going to say a bad pair of words for a diamond site. Krazy Glue. I had a diamond work loose in a setting while on a trip, and felt it was safer on my hands than possibly getting lost in luggage.
Sending you dust.

Krazy glue? as a temporary fix? I never thought of that... I wonder if it would come off... ?

could it be an indented natural you hadn't noticed before? that's kind of what it sounds like to me. A chip usually looks like, well, a chip! I suspect the only way to tell for sure is to have a jeweler look at it. Sorry!

What in the world? Seriously? That is the same as super glue, right? Once I super glued two of my fingers together. lol Believe me, you do NOT want to use that on a ring or skin!

Sorry bean ;(

I sure hope it checks out okay!

oh bad luck bean! truly, a diamond lover's worst nightmare :errrr:

AAAAgggh!! So sorry to hear this, especially so close to your wedding. Hope you can get it fixed in time :errrr:

Singlestone repolished my OEC in approximately 4 days and overnighted it back to me. It's definitely fixable. I know it's agonizing though!
