So I have been talking with a ring designer through email for about a week about a certain ring I really love. They told me that a custom matching band is a piece of cake. I told them my center stone is a rb cut and the ring I like has a cushion halo. Now, they can make the halo fit any size stone which is good, But I really dont want to see any gap between my stone and the inside edge of the halo. With that being said, If I tell them my stone is a 5.4mm rb, they will probably make the center 5.4mm in their CAD program. Should I tell them I want the center to be 5mm so that there will be no gap at all?? I have never worked with these people before and they have answered all my questions so far, I just dont want to argue with them because I have a fear if they make it the 5.4mm that it will show on the sides and it will already take 2 weeks to produce the CAD and make the ring, I just dont want to have my stone set and be unhappy and have to deal with that if it isnt right.

Phew, does that make sense? I sometimes ramble a bit.

No. Tell them the actual dimensions of your stone and that you do not want to see any airline around the stone. They should produce a CAD showing no airline before the ring goes into production. Don't mess around with giving them the wrong mm sizes based on what you think you want because the setting might be made that your stone won't fit into.

Agreed. Since it is a custom piece, you just tell them what you want. You're not going to sound like an idiot, but if you tell them the wrong information and you're custom piece can't be used, that's going to be a difficult conversation with them. Good luck and congrats!
