all 17 inches of it!

as of last week, i've lost 25lbs and decided to celebrate by getting a mini-makeover. i haven't had my hair this short in 8 years and i must say, it's so refreshing! not that it took me that long to grow it...i just happened to keep my hair fairly long over the years. the cut hair is now sitting in a ziplock baggie waiting to be sent to a charity, and i hope it'll be made into a wig for a deserving child.

i'm still researching which charity to donate it to. there are a few (including Locks of Love) that will not accept my hair since there are some remnants of old highlights in it. although, i have heard of some that will take it no matter what. anyone have experience with any hair-donating charities? i'd love to hear your input!

anyway, here's a "before" pic as it was getting cut:

15 inches are going to be donated! the extra 2 inches were cut off for style purposes...at least that''s what my stylist said.

That''s awesome VIP! I have no idea about charities, but you look great with the new haircut! And good for you for donating it!

Congrats on the new ''do vip! It looks very chic!

Whoa! That's wonderful news about your weight loss. You certainly deserve a mini-makeover. You are very generous to want to donate your hair.

Send it to Locks of Love. First of all your hair hardly looks highlighted and they could easily separate it since they work hair by hair. Secondly, what hair they can't use they sell to other sources. So they can make money to benefit their organization. Don't worry, it will not go to waste.

You look gorgeous in your new hair style!!

Number 1- you look AMAZING!!!!! Congrats!

Number 2- I wanted to suggest Pantene Great Lengths. I am donating to them next week. Locks of Love has had some sketchy practices of late and this article came out which is kind of a turn off IMO. Pantene takes color treated hair! http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/06/fashion/06locks.html

Wow!! That''s so cool... congrats on the weight loss and the good deed :D :D

And I reaaaally like your cut!

wow, you have beautiful hair, both long and short!

Gorgeous new look!! Really suits you. Well done you for donating!

Congratulations! You look ADORABLE!

Congratulations on your weight loss!

I think your hair looks fantastic!!! And what a great idea to donate it. I chopped 14 inches off and donated it in college - feels good to know it''s going to a good cause!

In regard to the highlighted portion of the quote above, this is a direct quote from Pantene''s website as to what the requirements are for donated hair:

[*]Donated hair must be a minimum of 8 inches long (measure hair from just above the elastic band of the ponytail to the ends).
[*]Wavy/curly hair texture is fine—you may straighten hair to measure.
[*]Hair should be freshly washed and completely dry, without any styling products.
[*]Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.
[*]Hair may not be more than 5 percent gray.

"In appreciation of the sacrifice that a hair donation requires, Pantene Beautiful Lengths only accepts hair it knows can be used for its intended purposes."

Unfortunately, my hair has "old" permanent dye in it, so I can''t donate it, or I would

You look great, and that is so sweet of you to donate your hair!!

Your new do is adorable and is going to bring so much attention to your eyes! (I love playing up eye makeup). I always wanted to donate my hair to a charity but mine never really grows past my shoulders. It gets barely there and then gets scraggly at the ends. Then I go get the ends trimmed and I''m back at skimming the shoulders.

I love your haircut you look great!

you look fabulous!!! how sweet of you to donate it- i wish i had that kind of stamina to grow my hair that long.

vip you have AWESOME hair!

I chopped mine off too right after our wedding. I donated the same amount to the Panteen Foundation.

Ahhh you look so cute!!!! I just chopped my hair off actually as well! About a week and a half ago. I cut off 12 inches. I''m donating mine (and 2 other coworkers who I convinced to make the cut as well) to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

Sorry if this it tacky, never stopped me before

, but what is that hair worth?
Just curious.

Are more rare colors, like red, worth more?

Congratulations VIP you look fantastic!

I love your new hair cut! Looks great on you

I think those are two awesome accomplishments!

I cut my hair this summer and donated it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I got a thank you letter afterwards for donating, which wasn''t necessary but made me feel so good.

I love the new cut! And congrats on the weight loss, it is a major accomplishment
