Hello,

I need some help deciding between these two diamonds. I've done alot of researching and never want to look at another diamond again.

.81 Round, H, VS1 Excellent Cut, Hearts and Arrows

.80 Round, G, VS2, Excellent Cut

Here is the halo setting I am planning on getting to go with it. It has at minimum G-H diamonds and SI1 clarity.
http://www.eternitydiamonds.com/engagement-rings/diamond-engagement-ring/Halo-Ring-With-Plain-Band-480.htm

The .81 scores a .09 on the HCA tool; excellent on all 4 categories. The .80 scores a 1.1; excellent on all 4 categories. I'm not sure if the .81 H&A is worth the extra ~$200...in normal viewing conditions, they probably both look the same.

No pictures or anything are available for these diamonds. I called to ask for more info and they gave me everything I already knew anyway.

Thanks for the help!

In normal viewing conditions- no I don't think the H&A will be noticable- but since it's only 200 more I would prob go for it myself.

I agree with Amy, for $200 more I would go witht the HA. Both stones look nice though! :))

ETA just a thought, have you looked into any of the PS vendors? I just took a quick look at James Allen web site and although the HA stones are compatible with the two you listed there were lots of others excellent cut stones less. It may be worth taking a look. I know you said you're exhausted ;)) but we could make some suggestions if you'd like.

ETA James Allen also has a setting very similar to the one that you are considering...

My mistake, wrong link for the .81. Here is the correct link to the .81 http://www.eternitydiamonds.com/diamond_detail.php?id=639521

Thanks for the replys. I did check out James Allen...in fact, I did a ton of searching there over the past few weeks. That pave setting they have is nice too.

Now that I look again, the .81 has no indication of being a H&A in the description or certificate. The only evidence is that it came up in the search for only H&A diamonds. Without any evidence in the description, maybe it's not a H&A?

I know it probably doesn't matter much between a G and H color or a VS1 and a VS2...I think it's more psychological for me. A G sounds better than an H...but probably looks the same.

Have you requested IS or ASET images of the stones yet? Maybe that will help you choose. You have chosen a couple really nice stones. I think you should get additional images first, you've done all you can based on the numbers alone, and then I'd order the one that you prefer based on the images, your eyes are ultimatly going to be the best judge!

I suggest the H color stone. it does NOT list a feather in on the cert which is a nice way of saying a crack. G stones cert has several more items listed on it and without knowing placement of these inclusions or flaws its sorta makes ya wonder. :-o

I have asked for other images, and Eternity said they "are not setup for pictures." So I guess the only picture I can get is the one I would take when it showed up at my door after I ordered it.

I agree, the .81 has less listed inclusions...which is good since I can't see an image prior to buying it.

I've looked at other sites, like James Allen and Whiteflash, and have run all of them in the HCA tool, but none of them get Excellent across the board like the 2 I picked from Eternity. I know it's only 1 way of evaluating a diamond, but it at least gives me some type of idea whether it's good or not.

As long as you can return then I would get the stone and see it for myself.

Well looks like they decided for me...

I emailed them and they said that the .80 is unavailable (it was available yesterday when I called though) And they can give me no images, no IS, no Aset. They also said that the setting I chose is only for a 1ct. stone, so there will be gaps around the diamond. They said it would be a $250 customization fee for that setting, but they would waive it. It makes no mention of this on the website.

The whole thing is starting to sound shady to me. I guess I'm going to have to start looking elsewhere. Damn it.
