I accidentally threw my ring!

I was taking my EC off last night, and my hands were colder and fingers skinnier than normal. When I went to slip off the ring, it just kind of flew across the room, bounced off the black tile hearth and hit the metal fireplace grate. In a panic I picked it up and got out my 10x loupe. It looks okay, but will it be okay? :eek:

Others may chime in, but I have done this sort of thing more times than I'd like to remember with no ill effects - I clean it in the ultra sonic and loop it - nothing has happened I swear - lucky I guess, but diamonds are very hard - they can chip obviously, but they can also bounce off the floor with no dammage too. Now that it's happened you will no doubt be more careful. Rest easy.

Thanks for your reply MTM! First time I've done that. I do have insurance, but jeez, I've only had the ring 6 months and don't want that hassle right now :) Take care.

I think it will be fine but for added piece of mind you can always take it to the jeweler to be cleaned and inspected!

I lost my wedding band a couple of weeks* ago in the same way - it slipped off somewhere on the trek from the kitchen downstairs to the bedroom upstairs. We've turned the bedroom upside down and can't find the thing :(sad

Yeah, my ring has slipped off onto unfortunate surfaces a few times. It's survived undamaged though, so if yours looks fine through the loupe I'd guess it probably is! Ditto though - you can always have it checked to be sure. I like my rings kinda loose, generally, and when I was engaged I wore a little spacer a quarter size smaller in front of my Ering in winter just to be sure it didn't slip off.

Edit*

I think I will get it checked just for peace of mind acorn :)

I too like my rings kind of loose Yssie, as I tend to swell a bit. Conversely , when my hands get cold, they shrink quite a bit. I was wearing my dearly departed Moms eternity band last winter and it literally fell right off on the floor. Now I don't wear my rings that loose, but I think it was some weird day when my fingers were at their narrowest. I do have slightly larger knuckles, which has always taken care of my 'loose' days (lol), but not this one time. Now last night this happens. Man that baby really caught some air time :lol:

::snort::

Hope it checks out okay!

Thanks Yssie and others :))

I forgot to say that I hope you find your w-ring Yssie. Do you have kids? The reason I ask is that I do a bit of beading and occasionally I lose a bead. Not a problem with most beads, but when it is a wee diamond rondelle, well I want to get those sweethearts back. I've found that either of my two sons can find them like a hot damn in mere seconds. I think it is because they are closer to the ground :lol: Anyway, just a thought...and I hope it turns up for you!

No kids... want to loan me one for an hour? :rodent: We do have cats - I'm pretty sure one of them has a stash that includes a pair of cheese forks, but she's awfully good at sneaking around I haven't been able to track her...
