I’m on the upgrade train again with HPD/CBI!

With all that looking at the HPD
website, I found a great upgrade for me! (You know Pricescope does this lol).

I’m going from 1.09 K si1 to a 1.25 K vs2! It’s a nice jump in size.

I’m keeping my same setting, which is a stuller solstice head with a stuller scroll band.

I’m so excited!
 
That sounds amazing! I’m thinking of doing a very similar jump and wasn’t sure if it would be noticeable or not. Congrats!

I checked the MMs on diamond database and it is a noticeable difference. Also, Melissa has to order me a new head, so I think that helps me visualize it.
 
I’m going from 6.59 x 6.61 to 6.9x 6.93 and from a depth of 62 to 61.8.

I’ll add the graphic in a minute— switching to iPad.

Anyway, I think it’s a nice jump considering I didn’t think I would upgrade until another several months. I saw this one and went, welp, I guess I’m upgrading now. Lol.

(Plus I’m paying rents and tuitions for uni for 3 kids and I was like...heck, mama needs a little something now since I’m bleeding money... what’s a little more lol)

Someone help me out.... isn’t the general rule I have read here that a .2mm size difference is noticeable?

That’s what was said in my DSS thread. I can see a difference. I’d like to see if I can go to 7mm. My current ER faces up close to a 1.10.

Just FYI, I’m working with Layla and many stones are on their way back from Antwerp right now. They apparently sent everything to Antwerp for inventory?? The diamonds will be available to buy once they clear customs. I’m not certain, but they may have more inventory than is on their website. Also, Layla told me that they are cutting now, but those stones won’t be ready for approx. 8 weeks. Maybe they have your perfect stone and it isn’t on the website yet or is going to be cut? I have 2 stones coming from Antwerp to view and I can’t wait to see them.

Thanks for that info. Ok, that explains why Melissa has to check to make sure it’s not on hold. I’m also asking about the 1.27 k and the 1.27 J. And like you mentioned, maybe there is one I don’t know about yet.

She is going to call me back in a bit with the scoop.
 
I'm not trying to be a downer, I'm all for upgrading. However, I personally do not think it is worth the time, effort and expense to upgrade such a tiny amount. I believe it is wiser to save your money for a larger size bump in a few month's time.

I’m cool with it. It’s about $125 for a new head, so that’s all I’m really having an an over the top expenditure to do this upgrade.

That sounds exciting! I have been itching for a bigger stone since I got mine. :) I have just not found The One yet but will keep stalking. I am even thinking of going a bit down in color to an I (everything for the size, lol). Truth is, I still have not gotten enough of the stone I have now. Hope to see a reveal once you decide which stone you are getting.

I'm in the process of going from a .81 ACA K to a 1.377 Expert Selection K. Yippee! It should be done this week! (I'm replacing my head and keeping the same setting, too!)

I am all about the K's! I LOVE mine! ;)2

That’s fantastic! I say go for it. Perhaps see if a 1.30 carat comes in and that will get you right at 7mm.

I completely understand where @RunningwithScissors is coming from. Since my upgrade will not be with the same jeweler and one of the preferred vendors here on PS -my upgrade will be way more costly on my end.
 
Ok new news! The 1.25 K is bought and in the meantime, I decided to search Js and I have decided to go with the 1.27 J si2 (y’all know I love a good si2 and my original 1993 uncertified craptastic diamond was a D I1 and it never bothered me).

Now, the plot and the video look scary! But the crystals are reflecting off the camera, so they aren’t black inclusions.

So 1.27 J si2 here I come!

Good to know. The 1.27 gets me even closer to the 1.3 I had eventually hoped to reach.
 
I just checked HPD and you’re right there are not many stones in the size and color we are looking for. They must have all be sold bc last week there were a few more.
 
Very exciting! You will definitely be able to see the jump in size at this level.

Melissa did say they are cutting a lot of inventory, which will then have to be sent to AGS, so maybe by Valentine’s Day there will be an influx of stones to choose from.

They are also upgrading their website, so that is why the 1.25 showed as in stock when it is sold.

Meanwhile, I’m also taking a look at the 1.27 K (which was the stone that was on loan from CBI that Melissa wore for many years and is gorgeous).

But as of this very moment, the 1.27 J is the one I’m upgrading with.

Yes, upgrade stories are always fun!

This train started off with the .64 I I think vs. (it shows you how CBI clarity isn’t an issue when I can never remember the clarities of my stones because they all looked the same to me)....

So .64 I to 1.09 K to 1.27 J. Going up!

My asscher, which I love and every time I look at it, makes me realize the setting and the stone are just a perfect match, doesn’t face up size wise well. Dang if that 1.52 doesn’t face up like a 1 carat. That is why I went for 2 engagement rings... my beautiful asscher and an amazing CBI super ideal that faces up its size with the “correct” measurements.

I’m not a ORTRTA woman. I’m a two perfect rings woman lol.

You too! You know, just saying, Wink has been known to take a trade in for someone who wants to switch over to CBI.. I don’t know that this is a policy only that I remember someone mentioned it once. I don’t know if it has to be a particular measurement or parameters.... just thought I’d put that bug in your ear lol

Wink, first and foremost, is a jeweler. He has been @cflutist jeweler for decades.
 
I would LOVE a CBI! I think I spoke to someone there before but they weren’t interested in my current stone.

Or maybe look at selling on preloved or Loupe Troop outright and then buy a super ideal? Anyway, just saying.

What is the trade up policy (if there is one) at the place where you bought the stone you have? Just curious....
