I’m bored! Someone please entertain me with CS!!!

OK girls I think I’m insane! Or at least treading in that territory.

There’s to be a pop up in Thailand and I briefly, very briefly considered begging my jeweller to go and try to buy me a Mokoko. I didn’t cuz it’s not as simple as them going there to pick up a doll (will be carnage there) but I did consider it……..

:loopy:

I want to know when we're going to see the juggling clown...

@Autumn in New England Juggling Clown has arrived!!!!

So to make a long story short, Pop Mart are nasty ba$tards who decided to release a range of clowns with super random characters and one adorable labubu. Thing is they are all blind boxes so you either spend $400 aud on an entire set or you keep pulling blind boxes and God knows how many you need to buy until you get your clown. Maybe you won’t get the clown at all! Then there are all the scalpers who are out trying to get the clown to resell at exorbitant prices.

I pondered my options for a while and in the end decided to go the “lab diamond” route and buy a high quality lafufu on AliExpress.

She’s absolutely adorable and apart from a few minor details that you can pick on to separate her from the real thing, she’s absolutely superb!!!

They took a while to recreate her. I remember messaging them the day juggling clown dropped and they were like: We’re still designing the clown, it takes time!

I learned about this mystery box selling on an episode of South Park! I think you made the right decision! Enjoy her.

Fun thread! I am toying with setting my purple garnet in a toi et moi with my green zoisite. However, zoisite is soft and overall fragile, and I definitely want the garnet in a ring. Maybe a deep-set bezel for max protection. They are approx the same length which is why I thought of it. Might not go along with it though.

Included are a couple AI visualizations.

While I will only meet and chat with my jeweler in a couple weeks... after brainstorming more, I am concerned the design will be too clunky. It can probably be improved with a cleverer design than those I have brainstormed.
An alternative that keeps the purple green color combo is the garnet with my Torrington.
It is more subtle and lets the purple shine more. Or I may go purple solitaire. But all options are on the table at the moment.

I tried to photograph the rubies my mom gave me. Getting light into them is tough - it's a cloudy day here - so they're under my desk lamp (looking a little brighter than they really are):

I don't know anything about them, except I'm pretty sure they're not synthetic - all the things my mom bought from our family jeweler appraised exactly as he described.

I really like this combo. The big contrast in size, color, saturation really works IMO

The Torrington is SO cool!

Which finger(s) will you be wearing the ring on?

I also think the garnet is vibrant enough to be set alone. Personally I’d be getting a mega pinky ring made!

Pinky rings seem to be having a bit of a moment.

I haven't thought that far ahead regarding finger :lol-2:

Pinky ring is interesting, and bold for such a large stone (9.5mm ish). I will hopefully remember to ask the jeweler about it as an option because I think it could work. On that topic, ever since I saw Yoram's pinky rings years ago I've been kind of obsessed with his design.

My logic for having 2 stones in the setting is simple: I am already paying for a setting, I may as well stuff as much as I can in it otherwise stones will continue sitting in a box lol. But honestly at the moment I am leaning towards solitaire. Since it is a mens ring it can be a bit bulky and maybe the Torrington can be set somewhere like this (I do not know ring anatomy very well so here's a very rough AI visualization)

Wow this works!!!

Actually it reminds me of an amethyst and tsav / demantoid (?) ring I have! It was supposed to be a pinky ring but a bit big so I wear it on my ring finger.

I’m having issues with Cloudflare / not letting me upload photos argh. If you’re interested, I’ve posted about it before. It’s by an independent British designer called Hattie Rickards.

This one is pretty cool. How deep is the purple and how wide in the narrow dimension of the green stone?

Garnet 9.45 x 9.31 x 6.01 mm
Emerald 8.0 x 3.5 x 3.1

Does that seem problematic? I have zero experience with setting stones; this is my first time.

The length of the emerald might be problematic as it is very close to the long dimension of the garnet and wouldn’t leave much room for metal in either end. Aesthetically it might not look great either. But the other dimensions could work.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Yes as usual the AI version is incorrect in small but consequential ways :evil2:

Yep, totally inaccurate proportions for both stones; I was just using it to illustrate the placement I was thinking of. We shall see where it goes, I'm excited!

I like the idea of a signet ring for the garnet. I’m less clear how to combine them in a “masculine” style, though I personally think gendering jewelry is over rated and we should all just wear what we like

synthetic sapphires from dr_diesel, now in a Stuller ring.pink stones_213043700.jpgset in silver.

Ring comes with a story. My goldsmith is fighting a GBM, very bad brain tumor, and when the CAD people at Stuller heard this, they sent him a bouquet of flowers. A shout out to the big hearts at Stuller.

While I totally agree we should all wear what we like and I am the last person to judge - I just wouldn't be comfortable wearing something that feels too feminine, for me. So that is my preference, and its just as valid as a guy preferring feminine rings imo.

My preference does not come from some kind of machismo/ego, if that makes sense. Not suggestion that was what you were trying to say of course, just pointing it out.

As for the proportions with the torrington, I think it can work. AI is not great at visualizing and I can't draw lol, but I have a vision. But will see what the jeweler thinks.

I appreciate your input, as a newbie, very much.

ETA reminds me of this post!

maybe he'll borrow it from time to time.... The man loves Diamonds...

Somehow I missed this reply, sorry! will try check it out today.

My photo attaching abilities have been restored!

Reminds me of Bvlgari. Yes, that is similar to what I am envisioning with the stone placement. I kind of like the idea of having the one baguette facing me when worn, rather than having a halo effect with, say, the rest being colorless diamonds. But both could work. Thank you for sharing!
