I’m bored! Someone please entertain me with CS!!!

Not sure if I have shared this video of my near 40ct blue green Tourmaline in emerald cut by Jeff W.

I don't have it in hand yet, and am likely to set it in a brooch pendant as it is likely to be too big as a ring for me! Instead of a bird on a rock, I am going to have a cat and a dog instead, in memory of my pets that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

The cat in top left hand corner with a paw reaching out to the dog, and the dog in the bottom right hand corner looking up to the cat. That's my design idea.

DK :))

Such a sweet idea, @dk168 . The tourmaline and cut are spectacular!

@Pomelo i can’t find the right thread but would you mind sharing how much that rubellite cab was?

I'll play, the rough of my Katlang Topaz that Jeff will be cutting for me in his signature Asscher/windmill cut:

DK :))

Omg I can't wait to see the finished product. How long would it take JW to cut it?

Just came back to update on the large pear tourmaline that I thought I liked…
Massive thanks to @Autumn in New England who mentioned about the colour shift in different lighting because it goes from a true red in incandescent light to a fuchsia in daylight!

I wondered if it meant that I could effectively kill two birds with one stone (have a giant red and a giant pink) but knew that I was rationalising with myself to keep it rather than being truly excited by it, so it didn’t come home with me.

I am stealing the setting idea for a big stone though!

Images showing the red I hoped it would be like under all lighting vs it turns very pink in daylight (I edited the image as my camera made it more red)

The setting is very you!

It depends on his cutting queue and it won't join the queue until I have finished paying for it.

Based on previous experience, it is usually within 2-3 months after I have finished paying for the price quoted for a finished CS.

He should be cutting the Emerald for me very soon, and I still have a Chatham Ruby that has yet to join the cutting queue before the Katlang Topaz.

Wow that's quite a few projects going at once. Thanks for the update. I am going to keep my eyes peeled to see the finished product. I am considering a pink stone in the future possibly so it would be good to have a reference.

Tucson gem shows are not that far away, just saying! :lol-2:

Have you signed up to his Gem Scoops mailing list? Worth considering as subscribers get to hear about new roughs and get the first dib.

He also has a vast inventory of roughs that he does not list, so it is worth contacting him to see if he has anything that might suit.

I normally provide him with a budget, choose the colour, cut shape and pattern that I like from his galleries, and let him do the rest.

Yeah I have signed up lol but I must admit that a CS is not top of my priority right now. So I am happy lurking and learning from the best on PS! That is so good to know. I might have a specific project in the future so we will see how that pans out.

CS is a rabbit hole for certain!

@Mrsz1ppy you know me so well, it really is!

But I simply couldn’t justify spending USD 2k on this when I’d rather put those funds towards a ruby… and the colour shift bothered me as I’m not a fan of pink.

Saying that, now I’m deep in CS rabbit hole territory, I’ll probably get a pink some day… :lol-2:

Yea…. I spent about five months in the blue rabbit hole - my conclusion was that I loved the velvety sleepiness of Kashmir’s… but I needed a 4-6ct stone. The next best thing was a blue sapphire that came out of the Bemainty mine in Madagascar- they looked so much like a Kashmir, that for a couple years, were accidentally cert’d as a Kashmir by major labs. I was still in the $30-50k range. So I patiently stalked auctions and ended up with a gorgeous antique raspberry sapphire that looks like a ruby.

Do I still want a Kashmir Blue? Yup
But more like a 1ct

@mellowyellowgirl @Crimson @Autumn in New England
I saw a rubellite today that I *think* I liked! But unfortunately the sun had already set so I’m not sure if it was the warm indoor spot lighting, the closed gold back providing a lot of oomph or that it was actually a nice rubellite!

I must say, I am smitten by the setting…

This is when the facets catch the light nicely

And this is the darkest it looked. I didn’t detect any brown so this may just be my camera. It looked like a pure (potentially medium /medium dark?) red to me

This is a really interesting perspective, thank you. I didn’t see (m)any rubellite cabs at the HK show last Sept but I definitely wasn’t looking hard enough!

Speaking of which… I tried on this 50ct pink tourmaline vintage Bvlgari ring today. The colour was a beautiful baby pink but appears red in my photos. It also had a spectacular price tag to match!

And it also reminded me of @Starstruck8 ’s theory that a cab glows when there are small inclusions to scatter the light. This tourmaline had very clear crystal at the top but a line of inclusions through the middle which meant it glowed beautifully.

Edited to better represent the colour of the tourmaline

This one at the bottom @Pomelo

Loool I should’ve known you picked the expensive one!

That’s vintage Bvlgari and around USD 30k :evil2:

Omg!!!! :lol-2: I was honestly just trying to do some pricing and that was the one I loved best so I thought I’d do a price check with you.

ETA: So much for a price check!!!

I was like: ohh I love that ring. Not much frufru but I can totally go non frufru for this ring.

@Pomelo sorry for tagging you in multiple threads. Didn’t want to derail your ruby.

Did you see many rubellite cabs at the Hong Kong show? I’m on a hunt and they don’t seem to be plentiful online? There’s one ugly one on Gemrock and that’s it! I’m hoping the IG algorithm will sort me out soon.

I didn’t see any rubellite cabs at the HK show that I can remember!! Tbf I stopped looking at rubellites pretty early on because I was on the hunt for an emerald cab.

I was at a local jewelry district and saw quite a few tourmaline cabs (both rubellite and pink tourmaline) but didn’t take any pics though. That’s to say - there should definitely be a few! Starlanka has several on their website.

Thanks! I really think I could get away with wearing it as ring! It is 20-odd cts. But, I will for sure do this one as a pendant. I love it. The flashes of blue are really cool in person and the cutting is perfect. No second guesses when opening this one!

I was going to say... I see green, teal, and blue!!

Yes!!
Glad to hear you did not see dead people in there.
Sorry, could not resist!!!

OK girls I think I’m insane! Or at least treading in that territory.

There’s to be a pop up in Thailand and I briefly, very briefly considered begging my jeweller to go and try to buy me a Mokoko. I didn’t cuz it’s not as simple as them going there to pick up a doll (will be carnage there) but I did consider it……..
