I’m bored! Someone please entertain me with CS!!!

Doesn’t help that quite a few vendors that I trust don’t want to bother sourcing tourmalines for me and just wave me off. I’m like “hmm why are you not a fan?”

Not even Jeff W?

Here is my Rubellite that he cut for me 10 years ago.

Along with a 9mm White Topaz, they were my first commissions CSs with him.

Just came back to update on the large pear tourmaline that I thought I liked…
Massive thanks to @Autumn in New England who mentioned about the colour shift in different lighting because it goes from a true red in incandescent light to a fuchsia in daylight!

I wondered if it meant that I could effectively kill two birds with one stone (have a giant red and a giant pink) but knew that I was rationalising with myself to keep it rather than being truly excited by it, so it didn’t come home with me.

I am stealing the setting idea for a big stone though!

Images showing the red I hoped it would be like under all lighting vs it turns very pink in daylight (I edited the image as my camera made it more red)

Wow, I loooove this!

Noooooo not not Jeff W! Have never spoken to him! Should clarify that these are non PS vendors!

And should also clarify that they are perfectly lovely vendors, whom for whatever reason, don’t seem very interested in selling tourmalines!

I'm beginning to think about setting my last 2 purchase! I'm a bit unmotivated and may accidentally end up buying something else instead . But I'm hoping this time I'll follow through. I oddly have very few pictures and all the little rocks live in the bank vault . But if I get them out to take photos Ill return and update.

Edited oh ok I found the pics in my gallery. But you get extra ones as I have the attention span of a goldfish at the moment (which is terrible as I have so much work to finish before year end)

Ooh your toi et moi is a killer combo! Will you be setting it with the spears pointing inwards?

And I really like the colour of your sapphire pair! Increasingly I’m drawn to lighter sapphires, especially for earrings…

I will say @Pomelo, they make good, relatively inexpensive, fun rings. I’m always wearing them to uni and using them as rummage rings (I know they’re not tough but they’re replaceable).

OMG you have all the blue sapphires! See I think I’m done with blue and then I see your three stone and I think to myself……. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have one………

Yes it’s true, this one is very fun!

However for me, I’d rather keep those funds and put it towards a bigger purchase as I’d like to tick those off the list first!

And… I am currently in the stage of life where I’m wiping two bottoms every day. If all goes to plan, another bottom will emerge in the next couple of years :lol-2:

So wearing big rings aren’t practical at the moment, although my favourite way to unwind after the babies have fallen asleep is to wear my preciousssss whilst pottering around the house… :mrgreen2:

Haha I wear rings while I’m typing essays or just writing down notes to memorise. It cheers me up to see a spot of colour on my finger.

No more CSs until after I have purchased a strand of blue Tahitian pearls.

That's the plan.

DK :lol-2:

I just bought 4 more Labubus :eek-2: and a display cabinet for them!

Enough for this month I think! But….. still cheaper than gems!!!

What fun! Good way to relax after exams. The earlier pair looked perfect with their jade cabs. Now these will be envious if you don’t give them some too.
Now you can wait for the pink dress…:D

I survived and I’m FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for a few months!!!!! Wheeeeeeeeeeee

Yaay!

Been a while since I was in uni but I vividly remember the relief of being done with a stressful exam.

Ya know, technically not a bad way to celebrate...

Oh I need more info on that toi et moi! Is the paraiba a sugarloaf or faceted? How large is it? And what is the other stone... tourmaline or spinel? Gorgeous!!! :appl:

Yeah they were my ideal colour -- the lighter medium blue. But then I sort of realized that if you go to darker medium blue then when the light hits it from the right angle it lights up. Then I was sort of hooked. I have some pics of the lithter medium stones which Ill find later (theyre pretty but they dont hit the same intensity level -- mind you I dont like too much silk so that might be part of why my lighter ones lean sparkly).

Lol I also have this thought, I'm still eyeing off another 8ct unheated. I dont have the finger real estate with the amount I seem to want to buy. So I should really stop, but I fall in love on a semi regular basis.

Oh I've been bad about pricescope updates. Im too tired/busy with kids and work to keep my own threads updated and I feel bad about opening a thread then leaving it till I can answer it.

The paraiba is 1.8 ct sugarloaf. And I bought it 'as the side stone I needed to set my mahenge spinel' which seemed very logical at the time. Subsequently I set absolutely nothing and lamented on the fact that all the stones still looked small to me. So I went out and bought a matching burmese spinel (which is almost identical to the mahenge but is in the bank vault somewhere).

Now I have 3 rocks (2 copies of the spinel, 1 paraiba) and am not 100% sure how Im setting any of them. I cant remember the emoticon hot keys -- but if I did Id put the head banging against the wall one here.

I was really digging for the sapphire pics (I have a good idea how I will set them) when I was like -- should set those as well and put the paraiba and spinels into the thread instead as I couldnt find the sapphires and needed to put the kids to bed.

You are all of us, my friend! Please, pleeeeease set that paraiba and one or more of the Mahenge spinels next! :mrgreen2:

That’s a hell of a present for one exam

oooh maybe when I graduate I can buy myself one “frivolous, repeat, don’t need it I have similar ones already” purchase!

I’m so freeeeeeeeee! Meeting random person to pick up another Labubu.

Here’s a picture of my beloved babies and Chansey with some laksa.

Oh please be careful meeting strangers, especially wearing that ring! I know it's safe where you live, but always be mindful, my friend. Your babies are sooooo cute.

All good! I met her outside her work building in the middle of the CBD. We had a lovely short chat lamenting about how hard it is to get Juggling Clown. She’s been secret hunting so constantly has to try and sell off all her duplicates. Great for people like me who just want to pick out specific Labubus.

Baba the newest member of the family! And Chansey in the subway tunnel.

@mellowyellowgirl did you collect beanie babies back in the day?

They were before I had grown up money so I didn’t even realise the trend came and went. Interestingly enough I’ve seen heaps about it recently because of the comparison to the Labubu trend.

I was also too young but it seems similar , though honestly the beanie craze was more intense… but I’m not really a collector of anything but antique diamonds lol too bad bc it’s too expensive to truly collect!

Lol haha Im currently eyeing off rubies and tsavs. So Im hoping I set at least one thing -- a sapphire or the paraiba I guess.

Actually I found a lighter blue pic which kind of illustrated this point. Im probably not making a lot of sense because Im too lazy to get anything out and take photos -- and Id make better sense if I got the pair out. But it just doesnt glow the same way, not unless youve got plenty of silk.

Congrarulations on your exam finishing!

Thanks for the additional photo!

I see what you mean, and I wonder if it’s because against a darker body tone, the flashes are more neon/electric/visible.

I haven’t fallen into the sapphire rabbit hole yet, but I’m sure I will at some point :lol-2:

I think its the contrast between these two. Even though theyre both beautiful, theyre actually beautiful in different ways. One will likely glow in the sun, but pick up highlights only close to the edges where the fascets are closer to the surface and the light travel time in the material is lower so the silk wont difuse the highlights by scattering the light as much.

The other will like have highlihts that can move accross the stone. And higher contrast as the body is darker. I guess you are right I like the strong contrast of the irridescent highlight against the deeper body colour. Also the slightly lower silk means Im likely to get more of them and theyll be sharper.

Both are fabulous but over time I sort of understood that while the lighter was my text book definition of ideal, I found the darker more captivating.

Not sure if I have shared this video of my near 40ct blue green Tourmaline in emerald cut by Jeff W.

I don't have it in hand yet, and am likely to set it in a brooch pendant as it is likely to be too big as a ring for me! Instead of a bird on a rock, I am going to have a cat and a dog instead, in memory of my pets that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

The cat in top left hand corner with a paw reaching out to the dog, and the dog in the bottom right hand corner looking up to the cat. That's my design idea.
