I’m bored! Someone please entertain me with CS!!!

I'll play, the rough of my Katlang Topaz that Jeff will be cutting for me in his signature Asscher/windmill cut:

DK :))

I am excited to see how this turns out! So happy you went back for what your heart was missing… and I can see why! Love me some pink topaz :kiss2:

Thank you!

This is the pink Imperial Topaz that he had cut for me that I reluctantly sold to another PSer to raise funds.

This glamour shot can still be seen in one of his Sold gemstone galleries for 'Others'.

Fun thread! I am toying with setting my purple garnet in a toi et moi with my green zoisite. However, zoisite is soft and overall fragile, and I definitely want the garnet in a ring. Maybe a deep-set bezel for max protection. They are approx the same length which is why I thought of it. Might not go along with it though.

Included are a couple AI visualizations.

Oh my goodness... I looove this color combo. Dooo it, dooo it, dooo it!! Even though, as you said, tanzanite has that trifecta of durability concerns, plenty of people wear tanzie rings without issue. I say as long as it's not an every day, dig in the garden ring, it shouldn't deter you. I have a pair of them I plan on setting as side stones in a ring.

Appreciate the opinions. I def want to think about embellishing the setting more, though I will probably leave it simple.
I think the key to the color combo is the similar tone - both are on the darker side of medium dark (and purple and green generally contrast nicely).
I'm also not 100% set on the 'open' toi et moi setting (with the gap) but at the moment I like it a lot!

I have sugar loaves for a similar ring in mind, from Gary B, Tourmaline and Amethyst, still not set, and am not sure if I would set them.

If I were to set them, it would one of those rings with a gap, each stone to be surrounded by a micro pave LGD halo.

Could you share what you did see? I want to learn! Was it flat? Dark? Shifty etc?

@Crimson’s one is so glowy and gemmy!

I think it was a combination but to be fair I was focussed on emeralds that day!

1. A lot of them are dark and only have bright red flashes at certain angles (like the second photo - caught it at the right angle)
2. The texture is crystalline (is that the right word?) so there wasn’t much silky glow

Purple and green is such a killer combo. Wow your garnet is amazing too!

If you’re open to ideas, have you played with compass/kite setting the garnet (turn it 45 degrees)?

That second one is :eek2:!

How big will the new topaz be @dk168

It’s the perfect baby pink!

Glad to see you found the garnet you love @to

The second stone is gorgeous!!! But is that only at one angle like you mentioned?

The first one is….. dark!

I don't think I've shared this before. I Screenshot_20251031-115639.pngbought this moonstone this summer. It is 11.5 x 9 mm and I just wish it was much bigger. It's really pretty irl.

I love this! If you ever decide to go bigger, I'll be happy to take this off your hands hehe. Such a beautiful Moonstone that needs a cluster of old cut melee diamonds haha.

Great minds think alike! I love how tall that sugarloaf is.

Before I thought of setting it with the zoisite, yes, based on a few Hemmerle designs like this one, but forgot about it after I envisioned the toi et moi. It would definitely work there too!

@Autumn in New England @mellowyellowgirl

It was definitely the angle. Here are some stills from the video and they’re quite front-on.

I just remember that I didn’t see any rubellites which made me think they glow from within! Not like some spinels I saw.

But again, that’s probably because I didn’t see enough rather than it not existing…

IMG_0824.jpegIMG_0823.jpeg

I dunno….. I see lots of supposedly AMAZING rubella’s and pink tourmalines but have always wondered if they are too good to be true. Take the one you posted, I reckon a good pen light shone on it while recording will do wonders which makes me suspicious of the bright, vibrant colours I’m seeing on the interwebs. Some of the pinks look like Chansey in their videos. Doesn’t help that quite a few vendors that I trust don’t want to bother sourcing tourmalines for me and just wave me off. I’m like “hmm why are you not a fan?”

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s not hard to make something look good on camera…

Pink tourm and rubellite perform really well under warm, indoor lighting. So they can look particularly fine when cleverly photographed. And some do hold their color in daylight. But oftentimes they peter right out... and it's disappointing.

@mellowyellowgirl @Crimson @Autumn in New England
I saw a rubellite today that I *think* I liked! But unfortunately the sun had already set so I’m not sure if it was the warm indoor spot lighting, the closed gold back providing a lot of oomph or that it was actually a nice rubellite!

I must say, I am smitten by the setting…

This is when the facets catch the light nicely
IMG_1025.jpeg

And this is the darkest it looked. I didn’t detect any brown so this may just be my camera. It looked like a pure (potentially medium /medium dark?) red to me

IMG_0922.jpeg

I really think that rubellite perform better in cab as they have great color but not having the brilliance and fire as spinels and such
This is a really interesting perspective, thank you. I didn’t see (m)any rubellite cabs at the HK show last Sept but I definitely wasn’t looking hard enough!

Speaking of which… I tried on this 50ct pink tourmaline vintage Bvlgari ring today. The colour was a beautiful baby pink but appears red in my photos. It also had a spectacular price tag to match!

And it also reminded me of @Starstruck8 ’s theory that a cab glows when there are small inclusions to scatter the light. This tourmaline had very clear crystal at the top but a line of inclusions through the middle which meant it glowed beautifully.

IMG_0962.jpeg

Edited to better represent the colour of the tourmaline

@Pomelo i want that big cab!!!!! Send it here!!!!!!

And I’ll take the ruby earrings in the other thread too thanks! I l passed on a pair of cute bow red spinel earrings on my last trip to Japan. Reason was that I wear wigs and you can’t see my ears much. Well I’ve since learnt to tie me wigs up and my ears are showing again ;(

@Crimson the dress went up by $2 after my exams so out of random sheer pettiness I’m waiting for it to drop back down $2. Sometimes I just don’t make sense!

I survived and I’m FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for a few months!!!!! Wheeeeeeeeeeee

And my $20 aud authentic Labubus arrived! Did not get scammed! Here they are modeling some jadeite. I think it suits them!

How about this?

Just came back to update on the large pear tourmaline that I thought I liked…
Massive thanks to @Autumn in New England who mentioned about the colour shift in different lighting because it goes from a true red in incandescent light to a fuchsia in daylight!

I wondered if it meant that I could effectively kill two birds with one stone (have a giant red and a giant pink) but knew that I was rationalising with myself to keep it rather than being truly excited by it, so it didn’t come home with me.

I am stealing the setting idea for a big stone though!

Images showing the red I hoped it would be like under all lighting vs it turns very pink in daylight (I edited the image as my camera made it more red)

When you ladies come to play you don’t mess around. Every stone and ring in this thread is gorgeous!!!! We really need a THUD emoji.

@lavenderdragonfly23, I’m thrilled this all is turning out perfectly for you with your beautiful setting. It’s been a thrilling journey to watch play out. I’m so happy for you.

@mellowyellowgirl, I know I’m stating the obvious here but I’d be entertained for over a month just looking at all your beautiful jewels…..then I’d move on and start playing with your wigs! You are a one stop fun shop!
