So after a bit of a discussion about personal preference in anther thread, we though of a fun experiment to try.

Please play along!!

So heres the idea. What diamond would you pick if you had 11k for ONLY the diamond.
we wanted a large but yet still limiting budget, so i was thinking 11k MAX! ( i didn't want to say 1 million! 8) )
it has to be just the diamond, don't worry about the setting.

Don't think of it as what you would recommend to somebody else with a budget, but what you yourself would get....

any shape, any color, any other C you can think of, but keep it a diamond.

Maybe post the stats, or if you would post a pic too, that would be great, not just the link :wavey:

Decided to take the challenge and honestly, it is damn hard to find what I want on a site that will let you look at the diamond. The basic would be F color, VVS2, about a carat round, with the certified hearts and arrows IE perfect or close to it symmetry with an ideal cut. I couldn't actually find anything within that range but most sites just kind of drop off right around $12,000 then drop down significantly.

A warm 2ct OMC or EC diamond with gasp-worthy faceting and then I will spend my day throwing prismatic rainbow bombs around the room while sitting in a patch of sunshine. Heaven.

What color would you have to go to to get 2k? Or what would you aim for?

The biggest, baddest, blingiest AVR 5-stone I could get for the money!

This is hard! Honestly I think what I want would be a custom request. I would want one of DBL's colored antique style cushions in light brownish yellow as big and square as it could be!

This stone but square and maximize for size!

Boring but i'd get a 1.4 to 1.5 ct / H / VS2 (dropping to Si1 eye clean to increase size if possible).

Not boring!

Keep them coming. It's so interesting, just like I had hoped!

A 2ct M...mmmm, M is for mmmm.
I am in love with this stone/faceting...I would just need it's big sister:

img_7016__34497.jpg

Not only is an M buttery warm, it is like "water" to me...a neutral canvas filled with reflected light from everywhere. A whiter diamond clouds the symphony in my eyes, for an old cut. I'm weird like that. For a RB, I like whiter...go figure.

I want an old cut L/M warm stone for my engagement ring in the next few months, tho our budget is smaller than 11k. the boyfriend is iffy on a low color, but I hope to talk him into it. If it's still there, I would consider the one above, even though it's under budget
:( Can you tell I'm jonesing?

Not to thread jack (my own thread no less)
But had you seen?
ETR link

I am mad for a gorgeous, eyeclean G/H cushion so I'd find the nicest, biggest 8-main or possibly ERD X-Factor under $11K.

Neil: holy mother of all!!! Exactly spot on what I want!!!!
Thanks for jacking, sent link to boyfriend...not sure if he'd move (or is ready) or not...

It's not a hijack if it's yours :Up_to_something:

The largest, eye-clean OEC I could get in the J-K-L-M-N range with amazing faceting. No question.

This if fun! Since I am obsessing over a yellow diamond and AVCs...I would either get:

A Fancy Yellow or Fancy Intense Yellow eye clean cushion diamond...it looks like about 1.2ct-1.4ct would eat my budget.

Otherwise, it looks like I could get a 1.5 ct AVC, SI1, Color J at GOG.

I already know I would get a double halo setting for the yellow diamond, but I never thought about the AVC yet...so many choices!!! :D

Niel, what's on your wish list? Inquiring minds wanna know.

I haven't answered yet because i am not sure! ha! Its pretty much a tie. If i was just making up the perfect stone .... I would love an amazing K 2 ct emerald cut with a culet you could drive a bus though, but as i don't know any

if I'm talking about real life, id get this ADORABLE chubquise! ( though its sold already i know) comparative specs would have it around the same price, it was below about 10k last year ;(

Cute chubquise :) Reminds me of that fat little windowless pear JbEG (I think think, I can't find it now) had before they split. It was quite the looker. Can't find it now :(

I would buy this:
http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-diamonds/1-ct-to-2-00/1-71ct-old-european-cut-diamond-gia-k-vs2.html#.UyJ524Xg9Co

"Unmistakably antique! This diamond has very blocky facets, with great light return and sharp contrast. Would make a lovely center stone, and very white facing for its stated color too! No nicks or chips. Measures 7.45 - 7.57 x 4.87 mm."

It's under budget, but faceting and color matter more to me than just a little more size (there is a larger M but I prefer K or better in my IDEAL OEC). And this is the prettiest large OEC I could find.

In budget too: http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-diamonds/2-01-to-3-00/2-13ct-old-european-cut-diamond-gia-m-vs1.html#.UyJ_nYXg9Co Not exact faceting, but it looks like a nice stone.

Hi :wavey:

I would get the best warmest step cut I could find like this:

_15808.jpg

Is this just one diamond for $11k or can I buy several?

If one diamond, the biggest eye clean AVR at G or better color. (Don't see a suitable one right now)

If I can get several, I might try for ACA studs, again G color and as big as I can afford.

I would be rushing over to that thread Jimmiane started about the big old-cut heart in the emerald halo, and pocket the 4k.

OR I would see what Jon at GOG or David at DBL could do for me in a stone with eye-visible fluorescence. I have a wide range of love for color, so while I don't wanna go above J, everything else on the playing field is free and clear. And I'm a total sucker for that one weird quality, as well as the gorgeous big chunky facets of old cuts.

For the purposes of this, just one stone.

The pickings are a bit slim in that price range, but here's the stone I'd pick from WF. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2715446.htm . And here's the stone I'd pick from BGD. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.093-d-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104067973013 . I might have liked to drop to an E or F, but there was none to be had.
