Specs (both are round cut):

1.38
H VS2
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good
No Fluorescence
Depth 63.3
Table 56
$8100

1.74
H VS1
Very Good
Very Good
No Fluorescence
Depth 57.9
Table 62
$12,890

Basically, what I'm searching for is a 1.3-1.6 carat round cut (ideal to excellent), VS2 or better Clarity, H or better Color, Depth between 58.5-62.5 and Table between 52.4-59.5

within $10,000 - $15,000

Based on the quick specs he sent over above, how would you guys rate the prices? They're probably negotiable, but I'm not sure how much so let's just stick to those suggested prices he gave.

did you reverse table and depth on diamond 2?

also do you have crown/pavilion angle or GIA report #

Re: How would you guys rate these diamonds from a wholesaler

That's what he emailed me... I thought the same thing. I'm hoping he reversed the table and depth on #2 hah

I do know he only carries ideal to excellent cut GIA certified diamonds.

I'll ask for the other specs, now.

I have SO much to learn.... :read:

thanks for the link, will read through today.

#1 is deep. Without the angles or GIA cert numbers we cant help you much. See if you can get some more into on the stones.

What lab graded these stones?

Re: How would you guys rate these diamonds from a wholesaler

Good point all- especially Neil's question about the gem lab.

Also- I always wince when the term "wholesaler" is casually thrown about.
If you're buying one diamond, you're buying it retail- which is really to the consumer's advantage.
Retail means service, money back guarantees, ( make SURE you get one of those) and other aspects that make the buying experience safer, and more pleasant.

It might be the case a seller has been, or is in the "wholesale" end of the business- but selling to a consumer makes it a retail sale.

The budget is really $10-15k total (diamond and setting)... realistically I guess a $10-$12k diamond is the true range.

So, I'm assuming H&A cut gives a much better sparkle and brilliance factor? (again, much research needed on my end. I'm at work right now, so will continue on through tonight)

It's not a wholesaler guy really... I guess you're right though in that it is basically retail (although their prices are much better than retail, but I get your point).

It's a place in Dallas called Diamond Broker I've been recommended to and heard great stories about etc... I enjoyed the way they did business the first day I walked in. Nothing was ever sold to me, it was just casual conversation and knowledge building on both ends.
And yes there is a money back guarantee, insurance for lost or stolen rings, 100% credit when upgrading to larger stones, etc... so that comfort factor is there. They get the diamonds from Israel and sell them here in the states at their B&M location.

I want to see some stones in person and get all the specs I can along with their prices. From there, I would feel a lot more confident shopping online.

That's an unusual one. Lots of people buy insurance of course, but it's rarely part of the purchase deal with the seller, it generally comes from a 3rd party insurance company and will require payment of premiums to that insurer. Can you explain this a bit more?

Unless you're looking to support Israel in the same way that some people are looking to support Canada or Russia, it makes no difference where they buy their goods. Actually, even then it may not matter since the fact that the trader is in Israel has very little to do with where the stone was cut and it DEFINITELY wasn't mined there (there are no diamond mines in Israel). Keep your attention on the grading and the price. If you then fudge the numbers up because you like the dealer or because they have cool perks along with the deal, so be it, but understand the whole deal.
