how to sell an alexandrite?

Hi everyone! I really need you help. I have this one alexandrite that I want to sell. Since I live in NY, I decide to get AGL report for my alexandrite. and the result was:
Mineral Type: Natural Chrysoberyl
Variety: Alexandrite
Color Description: Bluish Green and Purple
Degree of Color Change: Strong
Quality of Color Change: Very Good

When I want to sell this stone, no of the jewelers here offer more than $10,000 which I think pretty low ball offer. Any Ideas how can I sell this piece?

You can try to consign locally. It will probably take a long time to sell but you can also try LoupeTroupe and DiamondBistro but you have to also be on the lookout for scammers.

The vast majority of independent jewelry stores are highly unlikely to take on a large sized Alexandrite - unless they already have a client sniffing around for this type of rare item. Which, for that matter, is also extremely rare. In the US there are probably under a 100 jewelry operations who would take on something like this even on consignment.

If you are only interested in cashing out quickly, and not having seen the gem in question, US$10k is not an unreasonable offer.

For the most bang for your buck, you will need to contract with a specialist. This could be one of a couple dozen major dealers in North America or Europe - or contracting with one of the larger auction houses who specialize in gems and jewelry. Such as:

How to get my gem listed by bonhams or sotheby? Do I require to pay another fee for the AGL prestige report if I want to put my stone in their auction house? This stone is less than 5cts, I don't think it is that rare. It is not even eye clean. I can see one crack and one needle inside it.

Unfortunately, AGL did not state the origin of the stone, but the store that I bought this stone from 20 years ago claim this stone to be a brazilian alexandrite.

The directions for listing for all 3 auction firms are contained withing their websites. I've pointed you in the direction, you will need to do your own reading to learn - or call them.

You noted that AGL did not state the origin on the original report. This is because whoever sent it in originally did not request it.

With AGL, if you already have a report performed by them, you can submit the gem with the report again and request for the specific information you are looking for. Normally, you will not be charged the full amount, only the difference + shipping costs of course. For this to work out, it would be best to call them directly to determine what would be best, and to find out a timeline of when you may have it back from them.

The auction firms perform their events on a schedule. You may want to determine when - and which - firm is best suited for you.
