So what do you do if you find a diamond you want on one website - say Whiteflash - and the setting you want on another - say Blue Nile? Buy ''em, have them both shipped to me and then have to find someone reputable to do the setting? What would that likely run me? Enough to buy a similar diamond for more money at Blue Nile?

Boy this is fun

There are competent jewelers who will set the stone for you. You can have the best of both worlds, just do a little leg work and find a competent bench jeweler to set your stone.

Because your throwing in another middle man because your getting the diamond and setting from 2 seperate places it will cost you a nominal fee to have the stone set independently versus getting the diamond and setting from the same vendor which provide this service free of charge (at most places) when you buy the stone and setting together.

If your dead set on getting a Whiteflash stone and Bluenile setting you will have to pay for the stone to be set, but if the Bluenile setting is unique why not go with what makes you happy.

It should not cost much at all to have your stone set and are there any similiar setting styles which look like the Bluenile setting your interested in at Whiteflash if your really looking to pinch your pennies?

WhiteFlash may have access to get the same setting that BN has...you should see what they say. Our jeweler had a bunch of catalogs and books with settings that were orderable.

Otherwise, I would buy the BN setting you want, ship it to WhiteFlash and have them set the diamond. I would rather have WF set a diamond that you bought from them into a setting than ship the diamond (more expensive part of the puzzle!) to the setting company--they may not want to be responsible for setting the stone that you did not buy from them.

Dittos, Mara. WF may be able to get the same setting BN is offering. If not, then ask if they will set the diamond in the BN mount for you. WF has great craftsman that do wonderful work.
