for those who have experience shopping with your fiances for a wedding band,

how and where did you generally look to figure out what he prefers? did you go to B&Ms just to try some on, or ?

what was your preferred method?

My husband insists he is a simple man, and when you see what he ended up with, you''ll agree, but the road to get to that decision for his ring was worse than shopping for the perfect black dress. Back when my husband and I were searching for his ring, we only went to B&M''s because he wanted to try them on and see how they looked on his hand--that was our preferred method. We spent Saturdays going to so many stores at a lot of different malls, etc. With at least 10 stores and time spent trying them on, nothing pleased him. Picking out my ring set was easy since the e-ring had a matching band. For him, the rings he tried were either too thin, too uncomfortable, too detailed, not enough detail, too gold-looking, too-platinum looking, too light, too heavy.... I heard everything you can imagine! We even came very close with a few "maybes" which were really neat looking.

Finally, we ended up on a weekend getaway and decided to check out their local jewelry stores (mind you, this was now one month before the wedding). We went to one store and there, he instantly clicked with a Tungsten wedding band! He liked it because it was a smooth comfort fit and the metal color had a darker, slate tint to it. I think it was a perfect fit for him but it drove me crazy searching for it! He loves it!

DH loved a certain look, completely different than what I had imagined, but we looked local B&M then I orderd his through http://www.applesofgold.com/ good pricing and heavy weight.

DH wanted something unique and different, we checked out several b&m''s and he found his Scott Kay band at Bailey, Banks and Biddle. We then ended up ordering it online at mulloysjewelry.com and saved about $400.

We got hubby''s at a local B&M. It was way before I knew about PS. He is a simple guy that never wore any
jewelry. No watch or nothing! So I fingured a plain white gold/plat band would do but no...he went for a plat
band with 5 diamonds (.30 ctw). I was really shocked but after 10 years he still seems to like it.

That''s what we did. We went to a mall that has lots of higher-end jewelry stores (like Bailey Banks & Biddle, Tiffany, etc.) and I just told him to browse and try some things on if they looked good to him. I watched his reaction to everything, and tried to help steer him toward options I thought he''d like. It took quite awhile (3 or 4 browsing trips and oh, 6 months or so

) but he ended up with an idea he loved... which we had to get made semi-custom. He loves his ring.

I love it, this is something I will look forward to, because we often forget that we still have our lovely men who want a lovely piece of jewelry to match our own set!

Thank you for your stories.

Septembergirl- Love your ring set and your DH''s band! The tungsten is really nice. Is that metal adjustable btw?

Our search for my wedding band started by considering lifestyle. A platinum or gold band just wouldn''t hold up with all I do, so we started looking at tungsten and titanium. Went to several B&M and mall stores to get an idea of styles and comfort, since I don''t wear jewelry other than a watch. I went in thinking that I was going to get a fairly basic tungsten band (love that gunmetal gray color!) After quite a bit of looking and trying on, we actually found a stainless steel band with three flush set diamonds that both of us really loved the look of--I just didn''t want a stainless steel ring. That really narrowed it down and we bought a similarly styled titanium ring from www.titaniumstyle.com

I guess my point is that it was only through shopping together and trying on quite a few rings that we found the one that "clicked" for us both, and it wasn''t what I expected to buy when we started out.

My husband wanted a white gold band with no diamonds, so it was easy. From there we just went to stores to try on various sizes, and he picked one that was on sale at a department store. I tried to get him to go for titanium or tungsten, but he wanted gold.

My husband looked at dozens and dozens of stores (in San Francisco) and kept putting off a decision. We got married in early January and as the end of December was nearing I started to panic and privately ordered a plain white gold band just in case he never made up his mind. He said the stores were too busy near Christmas and after so he put it off even longer and then five days before the wedding he picked one out online and had it shipped. It came the DAY BEFORE our wedding. And he''s worn it ever day since. He always says he wishes he were a bit bolder with the design but it suits him well.

Thanks pannini! From what I remember, the Tungsten metal isn't sizeable, so he had to make sure that the size was a perfect fit. The jeweler told us that if he is ever in a situation where he jams his finger and injures it (swelling) to get the ring off immediately because hospitals have a harder time sawing a Tungsten ring versus a gold one. For him, he isn't sporty, so the likelihood of him doing that is slim--knock on wood! The cool thing with Tungsten is that it doesn't scratch. He has this awful demo he shows his friends where he scrapes his wedding ring across concrete to show them how durable it is (I don't advise ANYONE doing that), and it also retains the shine. The bummer part was that we couldn't get it engraved. I guess that's not so bad because mine wasn't engraved either.

are there reliable sites for men''s wedding bands, or is it pretty much reliable everywhere, with prices all being about the same everywhere?

recommendations of online stores?

recommendations of Bay Area, CA stores?

we have looked online, B&M, in a catalog...we looked everywhere. My dh lost his first 2 wedding bands (on vacation and during a move). The last one we purchased was at a B&M in the mall (we had no intention of purchasing). He wanted to look..just look but then found a really different looking ring which caught his eye. At first I didn''t like it but once he tried it on it looked great. He bought it on the spot (which I was shocked at) but he wanted it. Glad he did...I really love the way it looks on his hands.
