I bought a yellow gold eternity band, princess cut, channel setting in LA jewelry district, size 6... and it''s too big for me.

My question is-- how much does it cost to buy just a band without the diamonds and put my diamonds there? where can I buy one? I couldn''t find any website that sells just the band.

Thank you,

Lisa :)

why don''t you have the band resized... It is more costly to get it done when it is an eternity band, but it can be done. Also, you could look into sizing beads or have another piece of gold soddered in to the band to fix the problem...

Thank you for your quick response.

About sizing beads: I don''t want to add extra parts because it''s already bothering my fingers next to the ring finger, I''m afraid it will stick out more.

What''s resizing going to do for the ring? if he cuts out one diamond? Only after I bought it he said there is a size 5 and 3/4.

Do you of any place to buy just the band?
I''m afraid to resize and ruin the band...

I typed fast sorry about the errors.

Should be-

Do you know...

And to the ring... etc.

Did he say

Thank you.

you can buy a plain gold band just about anywhere.... however, it will cost you more to have the diamonds transferred from one band to the other than to just have it resized. Won''t the jeweler who sold you the ring make an exchange?

You can re-make the ring in the correct size. I''ve done something similar to this (had an eternity band''s diamonds taken out of a YG ring and reset into the exact same setting/casting in platinum) In gold, this should cost $200-$300.

I do agree, however, that you may want to go back to the place where you bought the ring--they may exchange it or cut you a break on the re-do.

If I resize the ring, will the line where they cut it be noticeable?

I had always thought eternity bands could not be resized (other than "shaving" the inside of the ring to increase the size slightly, like cflutist had done)...?

Personally, I''d remake the casting. Talk to the jeweler.

Here is the picture of the ring...

I didn''t quite understand what would be my best bet. The size is a little big (I slept with it and it fell)
Will it be very noticeable if they resize the ring (i.e. take one diamond out and solder it back together...)?
If they take out one diamond, what will be the size difference?

Here is the picture of my ring: htt://www.japanhappy.com/ring.jpg

And we just found 8 inclusions... 8 black dots inside the diamonds... what should we do?

sorry-

Can you return the ring and get a smaller size... that would be your best bet. If you can see inclusions then it has to do with the clarity of the diamond. The only thing you can do for that is to get better clarity grade.

Lisa,

To answer your first quesiton, most jewelers should have not probelm finding that ring made to accept several different shapes and sizes of stones and in an assortment of sizes. There is a large manufacturer at www.stuller.com who sells to most jewelers and they have pictures of their products online. Most people find it difficult to set the stones themselves and cost prohibitive to hire someone else to do it for them. Expect to pay about $10-$15/stone for this. Any jeweler who is prepared to assist you with the work should have several sources for the parts.

Sizing isn't normally all that difficult. To size it down, the jeweler will take out a piece and weld the two ends back together again. This can usually be done with no visible trace that any work has been performed. With this kind of piece, it will be necessary to remove one of the diamonds and there may be some difficulty in getting it to exactly the right size. It's not clear from your picture how big each diamond is but a full size is 2.5mm. If you are changing the size by less than 1 stone, they will either need to insert a small gold piece to take up the space or, in some cases, they can 'stretch' the remainder of the ring and then tighten all the stones up. Either way you are better off getting a new band if you can. The jeweler who sold it to you should be happy to trade it in for another one that is the correct size and this sure seems like the least painful way to do it. They can probably also trade you in for higher quality stones with less visible inclusions if you would like but this will almost certainly require that you pay some extra money as well.

He didn''t seem to happy about it all. But that''s the best bet. I''m worried that if they cut the ring I won''t like the way it looks like.

Does anyone know of a place I can buy a band without diamonds? I looked in Stuller.com, it looks like it''s only for "qualified members of the jewelry trade"..

5 and 3/4...

Lisa:

If you are looking for a plain gold band, they can be found in ANY jewelry store..... go browse and tell them what you are looking for.

1. either you exchange the ring with you jeweler

2. go to a B&M and tell them that you want to use your diamonds to make another eternity band in your size....they''ll be able to help you out....it is an easy enough request...they might charge you a few hundred

Are you sure your ring is a size 6....because it seems odd that your ring would "fall" off if it is only 1/4 too big.... 1/4 size is only 0.625mm and doesn''t seem like it is enough to make a ring fall off your finger IMO...

Stuller only sells to jewelers but almost every jeweler in the country buys from them. If you see an item you like on their site, call up a jeweler in you neighborhood and they can probably sell it to you. Jot down Stullers item number and give them a call.

I agree wth fortheloveofdiamonds, 1/4 size is pretty small. Most jewelers will have a tool for measuring your finger and are usually willing to do so for no charge. You can have them measure the ring at the same time.
